Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov, compositor ruso que formó parte del grupo de Los Cinco, basó su famosa obra Sheherezade en la colección árabe de cuentos Las mil y una noches, en cuyo marco el sultán Shahriar, después de haber sido traicionado por su esposa de mayor confianza, desconfía de todas las mujeres y decide desposarse sólo un día y a la mañana siguiente enviarlas a ejecutar para evitar la traición. Sin embargo, Scheherazade, quien se convierte en esposa del Sultan, inventa una estrategia para salvar su vida. Ella van contando al sultán una nueva historia cada noche durante mil y una noches, sin revelar nunca la conclusión de la historia hasta la noche siguiente. El sultán, incapaz de contener su curiosidad sobre el resultado de estos cuentos encantadores, retrasa su ejecución día a día. Hoy escucharemos de este compositor ruso que nació un 18 de marzo de 1884, La historia del Príncipe Kalendar perteneciente a la Suite Sinfónica Sheherezade de manos de la Sinfónica de la Ciudad de Moscú dirigida por Dmitri Jurowski.
