Melbourne rents have skyrocketed over the last 12 months and vacancy rates have hit an all time low of 1.2%... We are seeing competition on rentals like we’ve never seen before and renters prepared to offer over and above advertised prices…This all comes as the state government’s land tax changes take effect (among other changes for landlords!) with up to 380,000 Vic property owners becoming liable for taxes they’ve never had to pay before. So we’re seeing landlords selling up and leaving the market, home owner occupiers purchasing properties which were once available to lease….
