REPLAY: GHS Silver Streaks girls basketball season comes to an end with loss in Sectional Semifinal

After going into halftime down 19 points, the Galesburg High School girls basketball team came out in the 2nd half with resiliency and an incredible effort that got them as close as 4 points, but ran out of time for the comeback versus the #1 ranked team in Class 3A, the Washington Panthers.  Galesburg's season comes to an end in the Sectional Semifinal match-up at Ottawa Township Tuesday night with the Panthers winning, 55 - 47. In Lexi Demott's first season as head coach, the Silver Streaks finish with an overall record of 24 - 8, 2nd in the Western Big 6 Conference at 11 - 3, and Regional Champions. Galesburg shot 17 of 47 from the field, 4 of 16 from the beyond the arc, and 9 of 13 from the free throw line. The team grabbed 23 rebounds, had 7 assists, and committed 14 turnovers, while causing Washington to turnover the ball 20 times. Washington won the rebounding battle with 34 in the game. The Silver Streaks were led in scoring by Zaniyah Carter with 14 points, Ella Herchenroder right behind her with 13 points, Jozalyn Kilgore scored 10 points, Josslyn Peck finished with 4 points, and Grace Herchenroder, Khloe May, and Lily Furrow each scored 2 points in the game. The final Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game award for the season went to freshman Zaniyah Carter, who finished with 14 points, 2 assists, a couple of rebounds and steals while playing all but 3 minutes of the game coming off the bench.
