Thursday night in the Sectional Championship game at John Thiel Gymnasium, the Galesburg girls basketball team fell to the #1 team in Class 3A, the Washington Panthers, with a final score of 61 - 35.  The Silver Streaks' season comes to an end with a record of 27 - 5, a 2nd place finish in the Western Big 6 Conference, and another Regional Championship. Leading scorers for the Silver Streaks included Jozalyn Kilgore with 12 points, Zaniyah Carter added 10,  Khloe May finished with 6 points.  Galesburg shot 13 of 41 from the field, 6 of 16 from three-point range, and 5 of 10 from the free throw line. They pulled down 21  rebounds, had 7 assists, and committed 12 turnovers while forcing only 10 turnovers by the Panthers. For the Panthers, Avery Tibbs scored a game-high 27 points, becoming Washington's all-time leading scorer. Junior Jozalyn Kilgore was named the the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. She finished with a double-double, 12 points and 10 rebounds, as well as a steal and a block. The Galesburg boys basketball team's season came to an end in the 3A Regional opener at John Thiel Gymnasium Wednesday night, falling to the 8th ranked Peoria Lions, 68 - 44. Galesburg had its only lead in the game at 4 - 2, then the Lions went on an 8 - 0 run and the Silver Streaks never were even able to tie it. Although, they did get close. Down 9 at the half, the Silver Streaks rallied back to within 2, at 28 - 26 in the 3rd quarter with under three and a half minutes to play. But a technical foul on Galesburg's Cesaire Bile sparked the Lions as they outscored the Streaks, 13 - 2, opened up a 10-point lead heading into the 4th quarter and walked away with it, outscoring Galesburg by 14 in the 4th quarter. Our Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game was senior Keigen Crummer. He ended his career leading the Silver Streaks with 13 points on the night. The Galesburg boys basketball team finishes the season, 18 - 13, in Coach Taylor Thiel's first season as head coach. It was the Streaks first winning season in four years. Peoria High advances to the Regional Championship game versus East Peoria, Friday night at 6:00 at John Thiel Gymnasium.

The GHS Silver Streaks girls basketball team advanced in the Galesburg Sectional with a dominating win over the Metamora Redbirds, 51 - 27. It was a smothering defensive effort by the Streaks who held the Redbirds scoreless until the 2nd quarter. Scoring for Galesburg was Zaniyah Carter with a game-high 16 points, Ella Herchenroder scored 11, Jozalyn Kilgore contributed 10, Lily Furrow had 8, Taylor Herchenroder finished with 5, and Olivia Springer scored 1 point. The Streaks shot 21 of 46 from the field, 2 of 11 from three-point range, and 7 of 12 from the free throw line. They pulled down 30 rebounds, had 10 assists, and committed 12 turnovers while forcing 18 turnovers by the Redbirds. For the second game in a row, point guard Ella Herchenroder was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. In addition to scoring 11 points, she finished with 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, and had 2 blocks. Ella did a little bit of everything in the game, but was a key player once again on the Streaks defense which held the Redbirds scoreless in the 1st quarter and set the tone for the rest of the game. The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team won back-to-back Regional Championships when they knocked off the Morton Potters at the East Peoria Regional Thursday night. The Streaks came out with cold shooting to start the game, but their stellar defense locked down the Potters. Morton only had 2 shot attempts in the 2nd quarter while the shots started falling for Galesburg, who had a 17 - 9 lead by halftime, and went on to win 35 - 19. Leading the way for the Silver Streaks was Zaniyah Carter with 12 points, Ella Herchenroder chipped in 8, Khloe May finished with 5, and Jozalyn Kilgore, Lily Furrow, and Ellie Johnson each had 4 points. Galesburg shot 14 of 35 from the field, 4 of 11 from three-point range, and 3 of 4 from the free throw line. They pulled down 18 rebounds, had 9 assists, and committed 15 turnovers while forcing 24 turnovers by the Potters. Doing the majority of the ball handling, stepping up with some clutch free throws in the 4th quarter, and hitting a couple of huge 3-pointers, Ella Herchenroder was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. She finished with 8 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Ella's work on defense applying the full court pressure was key in preventing Morton's offense from getting into a rhythm. At Geneseo Tuesday night to wrap up the regular season, the Galesburg boys basketball team gutted out a tough victory, 63 - 58, over a very game and much approved Maple Leafs club. It was a 9 - 0 run in the 4th quarter that really sealed it for the Silver Streaks. Trailing by 3 points and with the aid of a personal foul and a technical foul, Galesburg got four free throws and the ball that queued that 9 - 0 run. The Streaks went up 4 and then held on to win it by 5. Rahkim McCellan and Cesaire Bile led the Silver Streaks in scoring with 14 points each. Galesburg shot 26 of 57 from the field, 4 of 13 from 3-point range, and struggled at the free throw line where the team was 7 of 19. They grabbed 28 rebounds, had 12 assists, and committed 10 turnovers while forcing 19 turnovers by the Maple Leafs. Senior Tobi Kivunina was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game.  Coach Taylor Thiel made a defensive switch putting Kivunina on the driving force for Geneseo, Jaydon Burrage, and shut him down in the 4th quarter which helped the Silver Streaks pull away. Kivunina finished with 9 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist and a steal. The Silver Streaks finish the regular season 18 - 12 and 7 - 7 in the Western Big 6 Conference. Next up for the Galesburg boys basketball team is the Regional opener at John Thiel Gymnasium Wednesday night, February 25.  It'll be the second of two games in regional play that night as Peoria High comes to town. The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team advanced in the postseason by knocking off the East Peoria Raiders, 57 - 25, Monday night at the East Peoria Regional. Leading the way for the Silver Streaks was Khloe May with 11 points, Ella Herchenroder chipped in 10, Grace Herchenroder finished with 9, Zaniyah Carter had 8, and Ellie Johnson had 7 points. Overall, it was not the best shooting night for the Streaks with 23 of 58 from the field, just 5 of 23 from three-point range, and 6 of 16 from the free throw line. They pulled down 35 rebounds, had 15 assists, and committed 16 turnovers while forcing 30 turnovers by the Raiders. Senior Khloe May made the most of her first career start and was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. In addition to scoring 11 points, Khloe finished with 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals.  She just hounded the Raiders on defense with her ability to press and force turnovers, as well as using her speed to get back on transition and cause them problems. On Senior Night at John Thiel Gym, the Galesburg boys basketball team just never could get the car out of 2nd gear as the Moline Maroons came out shooting hot and opening up a 23 - 9 lead by the end of the 1st quarter. Ultimately, they would expand the lead to 26 at the half, before finishing off a 65 - 53 victory over the Silver Streaks. On a night when Stone Thiel got to start in the game despite the knee injury that he suffered at the DeKalb Tournament, Stone got the first points of the night on his Senior Night and that was the only lead that the Streaks had during the evening. Ultimately, Eden Mayala and Rahkim McCellan led Galesburg in scoring as both finished in double figures with 10 points, Cesaire Bile had 8,  Tobi Kivunina scored 7, Keigen Crummer had 6, and both Demetrius Watson and Jaxon Wyatt off the bench each had 5 points. Overall, Galesburg shot 19 of 52 from the field, 7 of 22 from 3-point range, and 8 of 14 from the free throw line. They grabbed 31 rebounds, had 11 assists, and committed 12 turnovers while forcing 11 turnovers by the Maroons. Senior Rahkim McCellan was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game.  In addition to scoring 10 points, Rahkim led the team in rebounds with 7, had 3 assists, and played a solid game defensively. The Silver Streaks fall to 17 - 12 on the season and 6 - 7 in the Western Big 6 Conference. Moline got win number 20 and they remain tied with Rock Island for 1st place in the conference with one game to go. The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team dropped to 25 - 4 on the season and finishes the Western Big 6 slate 11 - 3, with a 54 - 53 loss Thursday night to the Rock Island Rocks on their Senior Night. The Streaks overcame adversity and some self-inflicted wounds in the 1st half to claw their way back late in the game with a chance to win it, but came up just short. The leading scorer for the Silver Streaks and in the game was Zaniyah Carter with 20 points, both Jozalyn Kilgore and Khloe May had 9, Taylor Herchenroder had 6, Ella Herchenroder finished with 5, and both Lily Furrow and Ellie Johnson scored 2 points. Overall, it was a tough shooting night for the Streaks with 20 of 56 from the field, 8 of 26 from three-point range, and 5 of 8 from the free throw line. They pulled down 28 rebounds, had 14 assists, and committed 13 turnovers while forcing 19 by the Rocks. With an incredible 2nd half, shooting 6 0f 7 from the field and draining 5 three-pointers, Zaniyah Carter was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. For their second straight game in the Western Big 6 Conference, the Galesburg Silver Streaks boys basketball team featured the 'Keigen Crummer Show'. Coming off a career-high 25 points in a win over Quincy Friday night, senior Keigen Crummer backed it up by nearly matching it in the 1st half alone with 24 points, and went on to finish with a new career-high 33 points as Galesburg beat the Sterling Golden Warriors Tuesday night, 72 - 49. Head Coach Taylor Thiel was very happy with how Crummer just took control of the game early on and made a statement, as Galesburg built a 21 point halftime lead. During his post game conversation with Brad Bennewitz and Jason Wessels on WGIL, Coach Thiel commented, "He was outstanding. He came out on a mission. Once he got going, give him the ball and let him go. He was getting downhill and they couldn't stay in front of him. We were out and running, got a lot of pressure up front, and got a lot of tipped balls which got us into transition and Keigen went to work. Another solid performance." For the second game in a row, Keigen Crummer was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game.  In addition to the career-high 33 points, he finished with 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 5 steals. They grabbed 32 rebounds, had 9 assists, and committed only 8 turnovers while forcing 17 turnovers by Sterling. It's the second straight game for the Streaks with less than 10 turnovers. Saturday afternoon at John Thiel Gym, the Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team dominated in their conference win over the United Township Panthers, 64 - 33. The Streaks are now 25 - 3 on the season and 11 -2 in the Western Big 6 with only one more regular season game before Regionals. Galesburg had a season-high 12 players contribute to the scoring, led by Zaniyah Carter with 14 points, Jozalyn Kilgore had 13, Ella Herchenroder with 11, and 4 points each by Keerah Cooper, Ellie Johnson, and Grace Herchenroder. Overall, the Streaks shot 25 of 51 from the field, 8 of 19 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 6 of 6 from the free throw line. They pulled down 32 rebounds, had 19 assists, and committed 18 turnovers to 25 by the Panthers. Junior Abigail Casey was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. With her basket off the bench in the 2nd half, all of the Silver Streaks team members have now scored in a game this season. She finished with 2 points and 3 rebounds. Friday night at John Thiel Gym, the Galesburg boys basketball team got a win over the Quincy Blue Devils for the first time since 2021. And they did so in impressive fashion, 63 - 51. The Silver Streaks did it with poise and strong play both inside and outside, with senior leadership, and their power game down low. The teams went back-and-forth early in the 3rd quarter before Galesburg went on little 10 - 3 run to take an 8 point lead into the 4th quarter and held Quincy at bay the rest of the way. The Streaks were led by a career-high 25 points from senior guard, Keigen Crummer, who did most of his scoring from the free throw line, where he was 14 of 16. He handled the point and knocked down big free throws late in the game to secure the victory. Eden Mayala was right behind Crummer with a double-double, 22 points and 13 rebounds. Cesaire Bile scored 10 points and Rahkim McCellan finished with 6. Overall, Galesburg shot 18 of 45 from the field, 3 of 13 from 3-point range, and 24 of 33 from the free throw line. They grabbed 29 rebounds, had 6 assists, and committed only 6 turnovers while forcing 16 turnovers by the Blue Devils. With his strong senior leadership and clutch free throws down the stretch, Keigen Crummer was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. In addition to his 25 points, he finished with 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 5 steals to help break the losing streak to Quincy in his final season at GHS. Thursday night, the Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team moved to 24 - 3 on the season and 10 - 2 in the Western Big 6 Conference with a 70 21 victory over the Geneseo Maple Leafs on Senior Night at John Thiel Gymnasium. Honored before the game were seniors Lily Furrow, Sophia Kisler, Khloe May, and Olivia Springer. The Silver Streaks were led in scoring by Lily Furrow with 19 points, Ellie Johnson contributed 13 off the bench, Jozalyn Kilgore had 10, Ella Herchenroder had 6, and Izzy Kennedy finished with 5 points. . Overall, the Streaks had 11 players who scored in the game. They shot 30 of 70 from the field, 3 of 17 from three-point range, and 7 of  8  from the free throw line. They pulled down 41 rebounds with 26  of those on offense, had 17 assists, and committed 11 turnovers to 36 by the Maple Leafs. Also, the Streaks' outstanding defense limited Geneseo to just 6 or less shots in each quarter. Lily Furrow was absolutely amazing on Senior Night and was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. In addition to scoring the 19 points, she finished with 10 rebounds, 4 assists, and 6 steals. Tuesday night in the final non-conference game of the regular season, the Galesburg boys basketball team led from start to finish on the road at Normal West. The Silver Streaks scored the first 5 points, put on a big 2nd quarter run, and held off the Wildcats, 60 - 47, for their 15th win of the season. Eden Mayala led Galesburg with a steady 17 points on the night and Cesaire Bile finished right behind him with 15.  Keigen Crummer and Tobi Kivunina both had 7 points, Demetrius Watson and Leslie Kelley both scored 5, and Rahkim McCellen off the bench had 4 points. Overall, the Silver Streaks shot 24 of 54 from the field, 7 of 18 from 3-point range, and 5 of 6 from the free throw line. They grabbed 31 rebounds, had 16 assists, and committed 19 turnovers while forcing 21 turnovers by the Wildcats. Senior Leslie Kelley was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. The lead for Galesburg was only 4 points at the end of the 1st quarter. As the Streaks poured it on in the 2nd quarter, Kelley made a big impact off the bench and was a steadying force as the lead grew to 16 points by the half and pretty much held the rest of the game. Kelley finished the night with 5 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Leading the way for the Streaks was sophomore Zaniyah Carter with 16 points, Lily Furrow had 12, Ella Herchenroder and Isabelle Kennedy both scored 7, while Khloe May, Olivia Springer, and Grace Herchenroder each finished with 5 points. Galesburg shot 27 of 53 from the field, 7 of 17 from three-point range, and 5 of  7 from the free throw line. They pulled down 23 rebounds, had 11 assists, and committed 11 turnovers to 28 by the Lady Cavaliers. Senior Olivia Springer was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. Off the bench, she knocked down a 3-point shot and finished with 5 points, had a rebound and a steal. Saturday afternoon in Quincy, it was a battle for 1st place in the Western Big 6 as the Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team and the Quincy Blue Devils both went into the game 9 - 1 in the conference. It was a back-and-forth game in the 1st half with the Streaks taking a one point lead into halftime. But in the 2nd half, Quincy dominated on offensive rebounds and Galesburg's shooting went cold, as the Blue Devils went on to a 45 - 38 win over the Silver Streaks to clinch 1st place in the Western Big 6 standings. The Streaks were led in scoring by sophomore Zaniyah Carter with a game-high 18 points and was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game.  She also finished with 4 rebounds, an assist, a steal and a blocked shot. Taylor Herchenroder and Eleanor Johnson both scored 6 points, and Jozalyn Kilgore and Lily Furrow both finished with 4 points. Both Galesburg and Quincy shot about 35% from the field, but the difference for the Blue Devils was a couple more made three-point shots and 3 made free throws to none by the Streaks. Overall, Galesburg shot 17 of 48 from the field, 4 of 15 from three-point range, and 0 of  2 from the free throw line. They pulled down 32 rebounds, had 7 assists, and committed 20 turnovers to only 13 by the Blue Devils. The Galesburg girls are now 22 - 3 on the season and 9 - 2 in the Western Big 6. A quick turn-around for the Streaks as they are back on the road Monday night to take on the LaSalle-Peru Cavaliers. At the Panther Den Friday night, the 2nd quarter once again proved to be a killer for the Galesburg Silver Streaks boys basketball team. In that quarter, the United Township Panthers outscored the Streaks, 21 - 2, forced 8 turnovers, and limited Galesburg to only five shot attempts. Nearly half of the Panthers' points in the ga me came from the free throw line where they shot 30 of 39. UT went on to win the game, 70 - 55. Galesburg is now 14 - 11 on the season and drop to 4 - 6 in the conference, which takes them out of any opportunity of finishing in 3rd place in the Western Big 6. The Silver Streaks were led in scoring by Keigen Crummer with 14 points, Eden Mayala finished with another double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, Jaxon Wyatt scored 10, Tobi Kivunina had 8, and Cesaire Bile had 7 points. Galesburg shot 20 of 47 from the field, 8 of 19 from beyond the arc, and 7 of 11 from the free throw line. They grabbed 27 rebounds, had 10 assists, but committed 20 turnovers while forcing 11 turnovers by the Panthers. The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team moved to 22 - 2 on the season, and 9 - 1 in the Western Big 6 Conference, with a 70 -58 come-from-behind victory over the Moline Maroons Thursday night at John Thiel Gymnasium. After everything seemed to go against them in the 1st half, Galesburg turned it around with an incredible 2nd half effort. Leading the way for the Streaks was Jozalyn Kilgore who played one of her best games of the year so far and was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. She finished with a double-double, 29 points and 12 rebounds, and played solid defense all night. Others scoring for Galesburg included Ella Herchenroder with 9 points, Lily Furrow had 8, Zaniyah Carter finished with 7, Khloe May had 6, Ellie Johnson had 5, and Taylor Herchenroder had 3 points. Overall, Galesburg shot 26 of 56 from the field, 5 of 23 from three-point range, and 13 of  21 from the free throw line. They pulled down 32 rebounds, 19 of which were offensive, they had 17 assists, and committed 11 turnovers. The Streaks forced 14 turnovers by the Maroons. A lethargic first half for the Galesburg boys basketball team led to a loss at Rock Island Tuesday night, 76 - 55. The Silver Streaks scored only 16 points in the 1st half and three of those came on a Cesaire Bile launch from just beyond half court at the buzzer which was their only made three-pointer of the night. But it actually might have sparked the Streaks a little bit coming out of the locker room as Galesburg went on a 12 - 4 run to pull within nine, and that's when Rock Island called a time out and reversed the fortunes. The Rocks went on a 17 - 2 run of their own and eventually got it up to a running clock with a thirty point lead in the 4th quarter on their way to the victory. Eden Mayala led the way for the Silver Streaks with 21 points. He was a perfect 10 for 10 from the field and 1 for 1 from the free throw line, all in the 2nd half. Also in double-figures, Cesaire Bile finished with 12  points and Jaxon Wyatt scored 10 points, also all in the 2nd half. Leslie Kelley and Rahkim McCellan each had 4, while Keigen Crummer and Tobi Kivunina both had 2 points. Galesburg was 26 of 47 from the field, 1 of 7 from beyond the arc, and 2 of 3 from the free throw line. They grabbed 24 rebounds, had 17 assists, but committed 23 turnovers while forcing only 7 turnovers by Rock Island. Leslie Kelley was our Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. When everything else is falling and crumbling around, Leslie is the steadying force. On a night when the Streaks had 23 turnovers, Kelley's presence when on the court had a calming effect to settle the team and he simply didn't do anything wrong in the game. Galesburg's three game Western Big 6 winning streak was snapped, dropping them to 4 - 5 in conference play, and 14 - 10 overall on the season. Saturday afternoon, the Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team traveled to the Potterdome and knocked off the #1 ranked team in Class 3A with a hard-fought 38 - 34 win over the Morton Potters. The Streaks were led in scoring by Ella Herchenroder with 13 points, Zaniyah Carter had 10, Jozalyn Kilgore scored 5 points, and Lily Furrow finished with 4 points. Overall, Galesburg shot 12 of 32 from the field, 6 of 16 from three-point range, and 8 of 15 from the free throw line. They grabbed 13 rebounds, had 9 assists, and committed just 9 turnovers. The Potters only shot 3 free shows, making them all, and the the Streaks' defense forced 20 turnovers by Morton. With some big free throws late in the game, junior Ella Herchenroder was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. In addition to scoring 13 points, she had a rebound, 2 assists, and a steal. Ella was the floor general all game long helping her team navigate the Potter's defense as well. It took two overtimes, but the Galesburg boys basketball team prevailed for their sixth win in the last seven games with an 82 - 69 win over Rock Island Alleman Saturday afternoon. It's the third straight win for the Silver Streaks in the Western Big 6 who are now 4 - 4 in the conference and 14 - 9 on the season. The Streaks had a three point lead with just 2.8-seconds remining in the 4th quarter when Alleman called its final timeout in desperation of a steal and a three-point basket to force the game into overtime. And that's exactly what they accomplished following the timeout. The game was tied again at the end of overtime, and then Galesburg really took over in the second overtime outscoring the Pioneers 18 - 5. Two sophomores led the scoring for Galesburg. Both Eden Mayala and Cesaire Bile scored 26 points, and Mayala finished with a double-double with 10 rebounds as well. Keigen Crummer finished with 8 points, including clutch free throws during the overtimes, Rahkim McCellan also scored 8 off the bench, and Jaxon Wyatt had 5 points along with 11 rebounds. Overall, Galesburg shot 31 of 59 from the field, 5 of 21 from three-point range, and 15 of 20 from the free throw line which was huge down the stretch. They grabbed 40 rebounds but committed 21 turnovers while forcing only 15 turnovers by Alleman. Thursday night at John Thiel Gym, the Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team picked up their 20th win of the season when they took down the Sterling Golden Warriors, 53 - 45. It was a big win for the Streaks as they avenge their only conference loss of the season back in December to Sterling. The Streaks are now 20 - 2 on the season and 8 - 1 in the Western Big 6. The leading scorer for the Silver Streaks was Zaniyah Carter with 17 points, Ella Herchenroder chipped in 11, Lily Furrow and Ellie Johnson both contributed 6, and Khloe May scored 4 points. Galesburg shot the ball well making 18 of 35 from the field, 7 of 13 from three-point range, and 10 of 11 from the free throw line. They pulled down 21 rebounds, had 13  assists, and committed 15 turnovers. Junior Jozalyn Kilgore was awarded the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. She was aggressive from the opening tip, played great defense, and made several assists with really good passing that set-up open 3-pointers. Kilgore finished with 9 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and was perfect from the free throw line. Wednesday night, the 8th ranked East Peoria Raiders came into John Thiel Gymnasium and snapped the Galesburg boys basketball team's five game win streak, 66 - 51. The 1st quarter was about as entertaining as they come with four lead changes and a couple of ties. The Silver Streaks led after the 1st, 16 - 14, but a 10 - 0 run by the Raiders late in the 2nd quarter gave them a 12-point lead at the half and the Streaks trailed the rest of the way. The two Division 1 future players from East Peoria led the charge for the Raiders. Quinton Kitt, bound for the University of Illinois, scored 22 points, and Cole Dubois finished with 20. Cesaire Bile was our Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game as he led the Streaks in scoring with 19 points. Keigen Crummer finished with 12 points, Rahkim McCellen scored 6 off the bench, and Eden Mayala and Tobi Kivunina both finished with 5 points. The Galesburg boys basketball team never trailed in the game as they pulled away from Kewanee on the road for a 64 - 41 non-conference victory.  It was the Silver Streaks' 102nd all time win over the Boilermakers. Galesburg led 25 - 5 at the end of the 1st quarter. It was 4 - 3 when the Streaks went on a 21 - 2 run, and that really proved to be the difference in the game. The Streaks' lead just kind of held there all night long. Kewanee went on a short 8 - 0 run late in the 3rd and into the 4th quarter, but they never got closer than 15 the rest of the way and Galesburg went on to win it by 23. The Silver Streaks were led in scoring by Cesaire Bile who put up 23 points, Eden Mayala also finished in double-figures with 12, and pulled down 9 rebounds, Tobi Kivunina and Keigen Crummer each scored 7, and Jaxon Wyatt and Grady Hickey both finished with 6, which is Hickey's varsity career-high. Galesburg shot 27 of 50 from the field, 6 of 12 from beyond the arc, and 4 of 8 from the free throw line. They grabbed 41 rebounds, had 16 assists, and committed 24 turnovers. Our Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game was senior Leslie Kelley who finished with 10 rebounds (matching a career-high) as well as a couple of steals and an assist, and did so in limited playing time. The 2nd quarter was kind of a slog for the Streaks as they struggled to get points on the board and turned the ball over 9 times. But off the bench, Kelley brought energy to the team and pulled down 6 of his 10 rebounds in that quarter to help hold the lead where it was for Galesburg. It was a great effort with 10 rebounds in less than 10 minutes of playing time overall. The Streaks have now won five in a row and are 13 - 8 on the season. The Galesburg boys basketball team went undefeated for the week with a win Saturday night at John Thiel Gym. In their second game of the day in the Martin Luther King Tournament, the Silver Streaks handily defeated the Gary Comer College Prep Catamounts, 78 - 29. The Streaks went 4 - 0 during the week and are now 12 - 8 on the season. The Streaks had four players scoring in double digits led by Cesaire Bile with 18 points, Eden Mayala contributed 12, and Rahkim McCellan finished with 11 as did Tobi Kivunina, which was a varsity career high for him. Galesburg shot 31 of 56 from the field, 5 of 15 from beyond the arc, and 11 of 19 from the free throw line. They grabbed 40 rebounds, had 17 assists, and committed 16 turnovers. The Streaks forced 29 turnovers by the Catamounts. The Silver Streaks had a fun night on the court and everyone got in for some playing time. One of the biggest cheers from the bench and the entire team was a score by Malakai Casillas. The Galesburg girls basketball team took a long road trip to Wilmette, Illinois, to take on the Loyola Academy.  The Streaks fell to a solid Ramblers squad, 64 - 32. The Silver Streaks were led in scoring by Zaniyah Carter and Jozalyn Kilgore with 8 points each,  Lily Furrow and Eleanor Johnson both scored 6 points, and 2 points each for Olivia Springer and Ella Herchenroder.  Overall, Galesburg was 13 of 36 from the field, 0 for 9 from three-point range, and 6 of 6 from the free throw line. They pulled down 24 rebounds, had 6 assists, and committed 19 turnovers while only forcing only 6 turnovers by the Ramblers. The Galesburg boys basketball team started off their day at the Martin Luther King Tournament at John Thiel Gym with an early Saturday morning win over the Danville Vikings, 53 - 47. It's three straight wins for the Silver Streaks who are now 11 - 8 on the season. The GHS boys prevailed on the strength of a 3rd quarter comeback. They were tied at 13 at the end of the 1st quarter. Danville then outscored the Streaks 17 - 8 in the 2nd quarter and led by 9 at the half. Galesburg roared back in the 3rd quarter to outscore Danville 22 - 4, holding them to 1 basket and a couple of free throws. The Streaks pulled down a whopping 21 rebounds in the 3rd quarter alone. Danville outscored Galesburg in the 4th quarter, but not enough, as the Silver Streaks held on for the win. The Silver Streaks were led in scoring once again by Eden Mayala with a career-high 25 points, Keigen Crummer finished with 10, Cesaire Bile had 8, and Jaxon Wyatt scored 4 points. Overall Galesburg finished with 40% shooting in the game with 20 of 50 from the field, only 1 of 12 from three point range, and 12 of 18 from the free throw line. They pulled down 36 rebounds, but only outrebounded Danville by 1. For the 2nd game in a row, Eden Mayala was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. The crunch time was the 3rd quarter when the Streaks rallied from 9 down coming out of the half, and Eden had the biggest offensive impact and rebounding in that quarter. At John Thiel Gymnasium Friday night, the Galesburg boys basketball team endured a back-and-forth start with the visiting Geneseo Maple Leafs, and then poured on the points late in the 1st half and throughout the 2nd half to run away with a 70 - 39 victory.  Galesburg improves to 10 - 8 on the season and 3 - 4 in the conference to move into the upper half of the Western Big 6. The Silver Streaks led by just 3 points midway through the 2nd quarter at 28 - 25, but went on to outscore the Maple Leafs 14 -2 to finish the 1st half, and then 20 - 6 in the 3rd quarter which led to a running clock in the 4th quarter. Eden Mayala was a big reason for the Streaks' scoring surge, missing only one of his shots the entire night. The sophomore finished with a career-high 24 points and was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. He led the Streaks in scoring and also grabbed 6 rebounds, had a steal, and blocked three shots. And oh yeah, an awesome windmill dunk as well! Rahkim McCellan off the bench had 12 points, and he and Demetrius Watson both grabbed 8 rebounds. Jaxon Wyatt finished the night with 7 points, Keigen Crummer had 6, while Grady Hickey, Tobi Kivunina, and Day'vion Jones all scored 4 points. Overall the Streaks shot 30 of 59 from the field, 3 of 16 from downtown, and 7 of 11 from the line. They pulled down 38 rebounds, had 16 assists, and committed just 10 turnovers. The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team continued their winning ways Thursday night at John Thiel Gym with another conference win over the Alleman Pioneers, 47 - 25.  The Streaks are now 19 -1 on the season and 7 - 1 in the Western Big 6. It was a balanced offensive effort by the Silver Streaks with 8 players contributing to the scoring. They were led by Zaniyah Carter with 15 points, Grace Herchenroder finished with 8, Taylor Herchenroder had 7, and Jozalyn Kilgore scored 6 points. Galesburg shot 20 of 46 from the field, 3 of 11 from three point range, and 4 0f 9 from the charity stripe. They pulled down 26 rebounds, had 14 assists, and committed 15 turnovers. The Streaks' defense forced 30 turnovers by the Pioneers. Grace Herchenroder was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. She drained a couple of shots in the 2nd half that were real momentum killers for Alleman. Tuesday night at John Thiel Gym, the Galesburg boys basketball team got off to a quick start against visiting Sterling. The Streaks scored the first 9 points, and 15 of the first 17, getting out to a quick double-digit lead and then kept the lead the entire game to a 54 - 35 victory over the Golden Warriors. Galesburg had four players in double-figures led by Keigen Crummer with 11 points, all in the 1st half. Tobi Kivunina, Eden Mayala, and Jaxon Wyatt all finished with 10 points. But the energy-guy, Demetrius Watson, was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game.  He finished the night with 5 points and 6 rebounds. Demetrius played with extraordinary energy, even when the Streaks were up big. He really set the tone for the team and also got the crowd involved. The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team hit the road on Saturday to play for the first time in the Iowa/Illinois Shootout at Augustana College and came away with a big win over the Bettendorf Bulldogs, 45 - 43. The Streaks were led in scoring by Ella Herchenroder with 12 points, both Taylor Herchenroder and Jozalyn Kilgore put up 8 points, and Lily Furrow finished with 7 points. Overall, Galesburg shot 16 of 37 from the field, 6 of 14 from beyond the arc, and 7 of 10 from the free throw line, with all the foul shots in the 2nd half. They grabbed 23 rebounds, had 13 assists, and committed 15 turnovers. It was a balanced effort by the Silver Streaks, but for her work on both offense and defense, Ella Herchenroder earned the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. In addition to her team-leading 12 points, she also had a rebound and an assist, as well as a couple of blocked shots against Bettendorf's leading scorer that were huge in the closing minutes of the game. The Galesburg boys basketball team fell to the Moline Maroons in a defensive battle Friday night at Wharton Fieldhouse, 57 - 45. The Silver Streaks scored only 14 points in the first half, but were down only by 9 at the break. That allowed Galesburg to come out red-hot in the second half , scoring 9 points right out of the gate to tie the game at 23.  After that, Moline slowly clawed their way back into the lead. They led by 10 at the end of the third quarter, and then three straight technical fouls on Galesburg head coach,  Taylor Thiel, in the fourth quarter put Moline at the free throw line for six straight attempts, of which they made five. Moline got the ball after that, scored, and the game was pretty much clinched at that point. Toby Kivunina was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. He had the defensive assignment on the leading scorer in the Western Big 6 conference, Brady Welch. He was held to just 8 points in the first half and only one made field goal. Kivunina made Welch work all night long, with most of the points he did score coming from the free throw line. Keigen Crummer led Galesburg in scoring with 11 points, Jaxon Wyatt finished with 10 points, Rahkim McCellan had 8 points off the bench, and Eden Mayala scored 6 points while leading the team in rebounds and blocked shots. The Streaks are now 17-1 on the season and 6-1 in Western Big 6 Conference play. Galesburg was led in scoring by sophomore Zaniyah Carter with 21 points, Jozalyn Kilgore and Lily Furrow both put in 11 points, Ella Herchenroder had 6 points, and Taylor Herchenroder finished with 5 points. Overall, the Streaks were 21 of 45 from the field, 5 of 13 from beyond the arc, and 50% from the charity line. They grabbed 26 rebounds, had 14 assists, and committed 15 turnovers. In the final game of the Sandburg Shootout Saturday night at Sandburg College, the Galesburg High School boys basketball team fell to Bloomington, 75 - 63. The Silver Streaks were down just 6-points going into the 4th quarter, but then gave up 29-points in the quarter on the way to their seventh loss of the season. Galesburg shot 26 of 52 from the field, 4 of 10 from three-point range, and 7 of 16 from the free throw line.  They pulled down 40 rebounds, had 14 assists, and committed 22 turnovers. Eden Mayala led the way for the Silver Streaks in scoring with 17 points, Rakhim McCellen matched his career-high with 15 points, and Jaxon Wyatt finished with 10 points. Those three were among the leading rebounders as well with Mayala and Wyatt both grabbing eight rebounds. With the energy that he provided off the bench and a strong defensive effort, Rahkim McCellen was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team kicked off the new year with a home win over the Pekin Dragons, 50-23. Galesburg turned a 5-point first quarter lead into an 18-point one by halftime. The Streaks would cruise the rest of the way to improve to 16-1 on the season. The victory marks the 40th in the young career of head coach Lexi Demott as well as avenge a lost to Pekin last season. Eight Silver Streaks scored with Zaniyah Carter leading the way at 10 points. Lily Furrow added 9 with Jozalyn Kilgore and Taylor Herchenroder scoring 7 points each. For her defensive efforts which saw her nab 5 steals, Ella Herchenroder was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. She finished with 9 points and 3 assists to go along with her 5 steals. Galesburg finished the game 21 of 48 from the field, 5 of 17 from deep, and 3 of 9 from the charity stripe. The Galesburg Silver Streaks boys basketball team started off the new year with a solid victory over the Rockford Jefferson J-Hawks, 65-49. The Streaks got off to a fast start in the first quarter, but Rockford Jefferson would hang around by cutting a 14-point Streaks lead into a 5-point one by the third quarter. Galesburg would utilize a 14-3 run to eventually come away with a 16-point victory. The win improves the Streaks to 8-6 on the season. Cesaire Bile was the Streaks leading scorer with 21 points of which 9 came off of 3 three-pointers in the first quarter. Eden Mayala contributed with 13. The Galesburg Silver Streaks finished out the Chuck Dayton Holiday Classic in DeKalb with a gritty overtime win over the Lincoln Way West Warriors, 66-64. The Streaks opened up with as big as an 11-point lead in the first half before the Warriors tied the game at 32 before the break. The Warriors used that momentum to go up by 9 in the third before the Streaks rallied to take a late lead. The Silver Streaks battled back from a 11-point second quarter deficit to ultimately win by 11 points of their own. The Streaks avenged their loss from last year's loss to T-Town to take the tournament crown. Galesburg finished the tournament a perfect 4-0 and win their 9th consecutive game for an overall 15-1 record. Lily Furrow made some timely shots down the stretch and scored a team leading 16 points. Marion battled the Silver Streaks throughout the first half; however Galesburg was able to enforce their will in the second half to get their third win of the tournament. The Streaks improve to 14-1 on the season and extend their win-streak to 8 games. After a fast start that saw them up by 23 at the end of the 1st quarter, the Streaks defeated the Danville Vikings by 41 points, 61-20. The game was apart of the annual Illinois-Iowa shootout held on the campus of Augustana College. With the win, Bettendorf assured that Iowa schools would win the overall tournament for the tenth straight season as Iowa went to 4-0 against Illinois schools. The Streaks got off to a fast start and never looked back as the duration of the fourth quarter was played on a running clock. Galesburg is now on a 5-game winning streak as they improve to 11-1 on the season and 5-1 in the conference. The Silver Streaks had a total of 12 players score on the night. Among them, Zaniyah Carter led in scoring with 19 points, 11 coming in the first quarter. Both Eleanor Johnson and Grace Herchenroder finished the night with 9 points.
