Researchers develop pill to treat sleep apnea
from KYW Newsradio Audio On-Demand
A pill could be an effective -- and convenient -- way to treat sleep apnea. A new study shows the medication reduced snoring, improved blood oxygen levels, and cut the number of long pauses in breathing. Eighteen percent of patients saw their sleep apnea disappear. The serious disorder is typically treated with a CPAP, but some people can't or don't want to use those machines. They were the patients in this clinical trial. The drug, developed out of the University of Pittsburgh, has been fast-tracked by federal regulators.
