With 12k GitHub stars, [Distrobox](https://distrobox.it) is arguably a very popular open-source project, featured in several Linux distributions, including openSUSE Aeon, SteamOS, and more. This talk shares the journey of rewriting Distrobox from POSIX shell to Go. I'll discuss the design decisions, architectural principles, and lessons learned in maintaining 100% feature parity while leveraging Go's modularity, testing capabilities, and performance.
