Rollins Stock (ROL): Down 40%, and a Rare Double Miss — Is Orkin’s Owner Finally Cheap?
from Charged Alpha Stock Encyclopedia · host Colton Thomas
Rollins, Inc. (ROL) Q2 2026 — Rollins (ROL), the pest-control compounder behind Orkin, HomeTeam, Clark, Western and Fox, reported a rare Q2 2026 DOUBLE MISS: adjusted EPS of $0.32 missed the ~$0.34 estimate (though +6.7% YoY) and revenue of $1.079B came in light (still +7.9% YoY — its 99th straight quarter of growth). The real damage was margin: operating margin fell 110 bps to 18.7% and incremental EBITDA margin collapsed to ~6.5% as soft residential lead volume met a cost base built for faster growth. Organic growth slowed to 5.7% (residential organic just +3.6%; commercial +7.2%; termite +8.9%). The stock, already down ~40% from its ~$66 January high, gapped ~9% to a fresh 52-week low near $40. FCF was $166M (115% conversion), leverage sits at 1.0x, and the dividend was raised 11%. Our owner-earnings DCF lands fair value ~$42 — essentially in line with the price. Our call: HOLD. Rollins (ROL) is one of the market's great compounders — the pest-control leader behind Orkin, HomeTeam, Clark, Western and Fox, serving 2.8 million customers with a stunning 99 consecutive quarters of revenue growth. But Q2 2026 delivered something it almost never does: a rare double miss. Adjusted EPS of $0.32 missed the ~$0.34 estimate (though still +6.7% YoY) and revenue of $1.079B came in light (+7.9% YoY). The real damage was margin — operating margin fell 110 bps to 18.7% and incremental EBITDA margin collapsed to ~6.5% as soft residential lead volume (consumer-initiated demand via search, digital and inbound calls) met a cost base built for faster growth. Organic growth slowed to 5.7% (residential organic just +3.6%; commercial +7.2%; termite +8.9%). The stock, already down ~40% from its ~$66 January high, gapped ~9% to a fresh 52-week low near $40. The balance sheet is a fortress — 1.0x leverage, 115% FCF conversion, dividend raised 11%, and the roll-up M&A engine still running ($117M of tuck-ins this quarter). So the debate flips: for years ROL was too expensive to touch; now a wonderful business is marked down. But our owner-earnings DCF lands fair value ~$42 — essentially in line with the ~$40 price, with no real margin of safety and a fresh growth-and-margin stumble. We're more cautious than the Street's ~$52 average target (a soft Hold, and one bank just cut it to a sell). Our call: HOLD, 3/5 — a wonderful business, finally fairly priced, as the algorithm stumbles. We'd get greedy in the mid-$30s, or on proof residential lead volumes have healed. Not financial advice. THE CALL: HOLD (3/5, A WONDERFUL BUSINESS, FAIRLY PRICED, AS THE ALGORITHM STUMBLES — A RARE DOUBLE MISS WITH NO MARGIN OF SAFETY YET) — base-case value ~$42 vs ~$40 today. What to watch: hard evidence the residential lead-generation softness was a one-quarter air pocket — lead volumes reaccelerating, residential organic growth climbing back toward high-single digits, and incremental margins snapping back as the cost reset bites — which would justify paying up for the compounder again and prompt an upgrade; the risk to respect is the demand softness proving structural (organic growth stuck in the low-single digits with margins staying compressed and M&A merely masking weak organics), which at ~32x earnings could re-rate the stock lower even after its 40% fall Also on YouTube: @ChargedAlpha DISCLAIMER: For informational and educational purposes only.
