God justifies the ungodly through the sacrificial death of Jesus on the cross. We have complete forgiveness, peace with God, unending access to the throne of grace, and a permanent standing of being declared not guilty before a holy God. This is terrific news.  Some people respond to the gospel in one of two ways: This is too good to be true. There must be something I have to do to ADD to what Christ has already done. This is called LEGALISM. This is too good to be true. I can now live however I want with no regard for holiness because God will automatically forgive me no matter what. This is called LICENSE. It is this second abuse of God’s grace that Paul now draws our attention to. There is a shift in Chapter 6. The focus is now on SANCTIFICATION—the process of living out our justification.
