‘Rosey wie?’ Zo start Lonneke Geerlings’ PhD-onderzoek over Rosey Pools (1905-1971) toen nog weinig bekende leven. De vergeten activist wordt gememoreerd in Lonneke’s onderzoek waarbij een veelzijdig leven naar boven komt. Een ding was zeker: Rosey Pool leefde ver voor haar tijd uit.Als joodse vrouw overleefde ze door een goede intuïtie de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Haar trauma zette ze na de oorlog in om te strijden tegen racisme. Hierbij waren de parallellen die zij trok tussen haar eigen vervolging en de situatie van Afro-Amerikaanse mensen typerend voor haar bekendheid. Ze was een held maar had zo ook haar eigenaardigheden. Volgens Lonneke kon ze Pool daardoor ook zien als mens. Want had ze last van een white-savior-complex? Of is die term niet gepast gezien haar achtergrond?
