Music/lyrics by G. Davies Recorded at The Riverside Nightclub and 32 Howell Road, Exeter by P. Bateman and G. Davies during July and August 1987 Remastered at Wud Records Studios 2010 Performers: Andy Richardson – vocals George Davies – guitars, synthesizer Jerry Peirce – bass Danny Bouget – drums THE WARNING The world’s going crazy but what can we do Confusion and madness all around you Read the signs, heed the warning Enemy aircraft darken the sky Sirens are screaming “We’re all going to die!” Read the signs, heed the warning A world that’s in trouble is no place to be So come from the heavens, come set us free Read the signs, heed the warning Words by George Davies. Copyright (p) Explicit Music 1986, (c) Wud Records 2010. George wrote this song on 20th September 1986, the same day that he wrote two others, which was a rare thing in those days. 'Come from the heavens' refers to salvation from alien beings rather than angels or any religious belief. The key is A major and the guitar solo is recorded backwards. The synthesizer parts were all recorded in one long take after deciding which sounds to use. They all come from a Roland synth that may have belonged to either The Sicillians or Freda and had been left at Paul’s Howell Road studio. It had similarities to the Wasp which George owned, in that it was a digital synth with analogue controls. When played live this song required heavy use of the smoke machine and strobe where possible.
