रत्नात् अपि मूल्यवत्

कदाचित् प्रतिदिनं पर्वतस्थं मन्दिरं प्रति गच्छान्त्या महिलया कश्चन मणिः प्राप्तः ।  आकर्षकम् उत्कृष्टं च तं मणिं स्वसमीपे स्थापितवती । अग्रे केनचित् बुभुक्षितेन पान्थेन भोजनम् अयाचत ।  भोजनस्वीकारेसमये तेन मणिः दृष्टः, मणिं याचितवान् ।  प्रतिवचनं किमपि उनुक्त्वा सा मणिः अयच्छत् ।  एतम् अमूल्यं मणिं सा महिला तृणाय अमन्यत । तस्याः त्यागशीलता नितरां श्रेष्ठा इति चिन्तयन् सः महिलायाः समीपं गत्वा 'तादृशाः गुणाः मयि अपि भवन्तु' इति आशीर्वादं अयाचत ।(“केन्द्रीयसंस्कृतविश्वविद्यालयस्य अष्टादशीयोजनान्तर्गततया एतासां कथानां ध्वनिप्रक्षेपणं क्रियते”)Once, a woman who visited a temple on the hill every day found a precious and attractive gem. She kept the gem with her. Later, a hungry traveler asked her for food. While accepting the food, he saw the gem and requested it from her. Without saying anything in response, she gave him the gem. She considered the priceless gem as a mere straw. The traveler, deeply moved by her selflessness, went back to her and asked for a blessing, saying, ‘May I also possess such qualities’.
