Running In Dakota Fields
from Silvio Vinci Hosted by Silvio Vinci
RUNNING IN DAKOTA FIELDS [Verse 1] Morning broke across the highway, dust was hanging in the air, I had forty miles behind me and another dream to spare. Old boots underneath the dashboard, radio was fading out, there was nothing left to follow, nothing left to figure out. [Chorus] Running in Dakota fields, where the sky goes on forever, running where the cold wind feels like it knows me better. No map, no wheels, no promises to keep— just running in Dakota fields with the wild grass at my feet. [Verse 2] Saw a farmhouse in the distance, saw a blackbird on the wire, someone burning old September in a little roadside fire. And I thought about the good days, all the things we couldn’t save, how we spend our lives pretending we’re not running anyway. [Chorus] Running in Dakota fields, where the sky goes on forever, running where the cold wind feels like it knows me better. No map, no wheels, no promises to keep— just running in Dakota fields with the wild grass at my feet. [Instrumental] Pedal steel / Hammond / guitar [Bridge] Maybe somewhere there’s a town where I could lay this burden down. But tonight the western sky is all the home I need. [Final Chorus] Running in Dakota fields, underneath a burning heaven, running till the darkness yields and the road turns back again. No chains, no deals, no reason to retreat— I’m running in Dakota fields… [Outro] Where the wild grass meets the sky, that’s where you’ll find me tonight. Running… Running in Dakota fields.
