Ryan Hall on Running Fastest EVER Marathon & Half-Marathon in USA History [Bonus Episode]

from The Dom Harvey Podcast

Fun fact: Ryan Hall and I raced each other in 2011 at the Boston marathon (only, he had no idea we were racing). I finished in 5528th place with a time of 3 hours 20 minutes. Ryan finished in 4th place with a time of just under 2 hours and 5 minutes, around 2 minutes per kilometer quicker than me!That day he set a record that still stands now as the fastest marathon ever run by an American. On this episode, we trace the highs and lows of his illustrious running career, from that epic run in Boston to the disappointment of having to pull out of the Olympic marathon in London and the career ending injuries he endured.Ryan gives us a peak behind the curtain on the massive physical and mental effort that goes into preparing for these huge races- both for himself as a runner, and now in his role as coach to his wife, Sarah Hall, who is a total badass. We talk so much more than running though:Ryan's now a tank as a result of years of weightlifting so we chat about that transformation. He was 63 kilos when he stopped running…now he kind of looks like Dwayne Johnson. We also chat about Ryan and his wife Sarah's decision to adopt 4 sisters from an orphanage in Ethiopia and the challenges of raising a family who know very little English language or American culture.Ryan's story is about resilience, perseverance, and the courage to let go, pivot, and embrace new paths. Ryan has such a good attitude. He might be the most laid back and chilled serious athlete you could ever meet. I loved our time together in Boston and I hope you do too. Thanks to Radix for sponsoring this episode. If its protein powders, smoothie recovery powders or freeze dried just-add-water meals that actually taste nice and give you the nutrients you need, check them out: https://radixnutrition.co.nz/ Hosted on Acast.
