S:1 EP: 44 The Pattern Is in the Repeat
from The Health Creatrix Podcast Hosted by Julie Lynn Derwart-Reh
The Pattern Is in the Repeat What changes when you stop treating every recurrence like a separate event How many times have you thought: “Oh my God. Not this again.” The headache again. The afternoon crash again. Another night of poor sleep. Another stretch of brain fog, digestive changes, cravings, or energy that suddenly disappears. Most of us respond to whatever is loudest in the moment. We deal with the headache. Push through the exhaustion. Change what we're eating. Try something for sleep. And keep moving, because, as Dr. Julie Lynn says in this episode, you're not walking around conducting a research study on yourself. You're trying to get through Tuesday. But what happens when the same things keep returning? In this episode, Dr. Julie Lynn challenges you to stop looking only at what you're experiencing and begin noticing how it behaves over time. Because repetition doesn't automatically tell us what's causing a symptom, but it can give us context. In This Episode Dr. Julie Lynn explores: Why “this again” may be worth paying attention to The difference between experiencing a symptom and recognizing how it behaves Why the same symptom like fatigue can look very different from one woman to another What timing, sequence, repetition, recovery, and better days can add to the picture Why asking “Do any of my symptoms tend to show up together?” can reveal information we miss when symptoms are considered separately The difference between recognizing a relationship and assuming causation Why good pattern recognition requires both curiosity and restraint How women can become exceptionally good at working around symptoms without actually understanding them What body literacy looks like without obsessive tracking Why there may come a point when you need to stop collecting more pieces and start looking at the picture One of the central distinctions in this episode is that two women can both say “I'm tired” while experiencing completely different patterns. One may feel relatively well in the morning and crash in the afternoon; another may wake exhausted and improve later in the day. Same symptom. Different behavior. Pattern recognition doesn't provide an automatic diagnosis—it provides context and better questions. Dr. Julie Lynn also explains how this way of thinking informs Systems-Based Pattern Mapping: looking beyond a list of individual symptoms to consider timing, sequence, repetition, relationships, history, changes, better days, and labs when available. You've noticed the symptoms. You've lived the timeline. You've tried things. You've adapted. You've collected the pieces. Ready to Look at Your Picture? If you know something has changed but you're still trying to understand how the pieces fit together, REVEAL Pattern Analysis is where we begin. REVEAL brings your symptoms, timeline, history, what started first, what keeps repeating, what tends to show up together, and your labs when available onto the same table so we can stop looking at one piece at a time. You don't need to keep collecting the pieces. It's time to see the full picture. I'm Dr. Julie Lynn. They see symptoms. I see patterns.
