Siamo ad Amburgo, nel 1960. Alma, giovane sudtirolese incinta e ripudiata dalla madre, entra nella notte tumultuosa della Reeperbahn con le amiche tedesche. Fra fumo, birra, marinai e spettacoli sordidi, il rock’n’roll esplode dal palco del Club. I Beatles senza Ringo, ancora sconosciuti, ancora ragazzi — incendiano l’aria. Alma ascolta, osserva, pensa: nel ventre sente muoversi suo figlio. Mentre le amiche inseguono libertà leggere, lei combatte contro il ricordo feroce del rifiuto materno e trova, nel ritmo e nella notte, un primo segno del suo destino: quel bambino nascerà, e porterà il nome che lei già conosce nel profondo, Marius.
