Nel 1960, ad Amburgo, tra neon, fumo e rock’n’roll, le due ragazze sfidano la notte nei locali di Sankt Pauli. Una di loro è Alma: giovane, incinta, cacciata di casa. L’altra è Ute, la sua unica alleata in una città spietata. Ma, sopra quel mondo febbrile, un’altra coscienza osserva: il bambino non ancora nato, destinato a diventare Marius Solari. Dall’Altrove, egli vede ciò che gli umani non vedono: gli appetiti deformi, gli istinti che diventano forme-ombra, gli elementali che si nutrono di brame e debolezze. Vede anche quali forze luminose proteggano Alma, intoccabile nella sua gravidanza.
