S04 Episode 03: Should I Start A Business

In this episode, we discuss the various business entity types and which might be best for you.What are the risks of continuing to operate as a self-employed person versus a business owner? With that information, you can decide on an appropriate next step for your self-employed work, based on an analysis of your individual situation.Unfortunately, there's not a general standard for whether or not it's best to become a business. Ultimately, it's a complex decision and individualized to each person. However, I firmly believe all healthcare-related operations should be run through a business. With the prevalence of self-employed work in the profession, coupled with how litigious our society is, in my opinion, there is absolutely no reason why conducting your work under a business isn't happening. As athletic trainers, we are exposing ourselves to unnecessary risk when we have not established ourselves as a business, and the cost to do so is minimal. There are many motivations for starting your own business, but regardless of what your motivation is, we can successfully pursue business ownership.
