In a 1998 survey, of kindergarten teachers, 33% said kids should know how to read by the end of kindergarten.  By 2010 that number skyrocketed to 80%.  With such a tremendous focus on literacy in kindergarten, what is being sacrificed to achieve these results?  The answer - more than you probably realize!   OK, but we are homeschoolers, so what does this have to do with us?  A LOT!  The public school system tends to set the “standard” in the US for what is expected, typical, and acceptable.  So this push is being felt far and wide in homeschool circles as well.   Homeschoolers love a good rabbit hole!
