Der er to elementer, vi kan fokusere på, når vi gerne vil opnå mere indre fred.  Det første er at have fokus på vores indre tilstand, og hvordan vi har det. Lægge mærke til vores tanker ,og hvordan de determinerer vores hverdag og måden vi oplever situationer og relationer på.  Det andet element, der kan være mindst ligeså vigtigt, er at have fokus på er at give slip i at noget uden for os selv, skal give os indre fred. Situationer vil skifte og mennesker gør langfra altid det, vi synes de skal gøre eller det vi mener er rigtigt. Det betyder, at give slip i at man kun kan føle glæde, hvis en bestemt ting sker i ens liv. Er vi fanget af at noget bestemt skal ske før vi kan opleve indre fred, giver vi vores magt væk til andre. Vi kan nu vælge vores respons med omhu.  Selvom det ikke altid lykkedes, så kan vi sagtens blive ved med at øve os. Som at træne en muskel, således skal opmærksomheden på vores indre tilstand også trænes og øves.
