S3 E9 Humanizing The Badge: Inspiring Positive Change with Guest Donna Brown

from Responder Resilience

We’re joined by retired police sergeant Donna Brown, one of only five female officers hired in 1979 by the Tallahassee Police Department. Donna is passionate about humanizing the badge and first responder mental health. Donna retired in 2006 after a 26-year career, and became an author. In this episode, she talks about her 3-volume, award winning Behind and Beyond the Badge book series. Her goal with the books is to help drive negative conversations towards a positive outlook on law enforcement and first responders. Donna shares a few stories from her books with us, which give hope and inspire positive change to the perception of law enforcement and first responders. This episode also features a new segment called “Resilience Toolbox”. We speak with Robert Webb about his Worker’s Comp Cancer Packets. Robert is a Retired Fort Worth Fire Department Captain who has created Workers Compensation Cancer Packets to assist firefighters who are diagnosed with cancer. Captain Webb describes his own experience being diagnosed with cancer himself and undergoing the many challenges of the worker's comp process. He struggled through searching for what he needed to file for financial support while going through treatments at the same time. Over time, he learned about proper evidence and materials he needed to submit through deep research to satisfy the State's system. In this video, Captain Webb explains: —What are the Cancer packets and how do they assist firefighters when diagnosed with cancer? —What critical information do the packets hold? —What is the single most important thing to remember if you're diagnosed with a presumptive cancer? —Who do I share my packet with once I receive one? At the link webbcancerpacks.com is the catalog of designated cancer packets. If your cancer is not listed or represented, please contact [email protected] and he shall do his best to build it for you. DISCLAIMER: The files and documents being shared are based on Captain Robert Webb's extensive research and personal experience on what he has found to be the most vital and appropriate documents for case building for recently diagnosed cancer patients. Anyone is welcome to download these folders at your own discretion. Capt. Webb, The FACES Foundation, the producers of the webpage and the producers of Responder Resilience Podcast take no responsibility or accountability for the accuracy of the contents of the packets enclosed.
