Salt of The Earth

In today’s episode, Rach and Suz consider how salt is talked about in both the Old Testament (in Numbers 18:19 and Leviticus 2:13) and the New Testament (Matthew 5:13). Jesus calls us to be the “salt of the Earth” (not to be salty!). How would 1st century Jewish hearers of this have understood this command?
