Today begins Passover, one of the most celebrated holidays in the Jewish year, commemorating God’s saving power and the dawn of Jewish freedom from Egyptian slavery. Jesus, Himself a Jewish man, honored and celebrated Passover–and used it to institute what is now known as the Last Supper (also called the Eucharist or communion). Today, through the Scriptures, we hear how the Passover was established and how Jesus revealed Himself as the Passover lamb, on this, the eve before His crucifixion. Another very special guest reads to us from Exodus 12 and Matthew 26: 17-19 and 26-30.

It’s Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week! Palm Sunday, the day we celebrate Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, occurs a mere five days before the tides turn and He’s crucified. Join us as we set aside a little time to read through the Holy Scriptures this week and prepare our hearts for Easter as we hear both prophetically and from first-hand witnesses (via the Gospels) what Jesus experienced. Today’s reading, by a very special guest, comes from Zechariah 9:9, Mark 11:1-10, and Luke 19: 39-40.

In today’s episode, Rach and Suz consider how salt is talked about in both the Old Testament (in Numbers 18:19 and Leviticus 2:13) and the New Testament (Matthew 5:13). Jesus calls us to be the “salt of the Earth” (not to be salty!). How would 1st century Jewish hearers of this have understood this command? What can we learn about the value of salt and how not to lose our saltiness?
