El sangrado de encías. ¿Es normal o deberíamos preocuparnos?Pues no, no es normal. De hecho, es la primera señal de que algo no va bien en la boca. Muchas personas lo ven como algo habitual, pero en realidad es un aviso de inflamación.¿Y por qué ocurre ese sangrado?Principalmente por la acumulación de placa bacteriana. Cuando no se elimina bien con el cepillado, irrita la encía y aparece la gingivitis. El problema es que al principio no duele, y por eso mucha gente no le da importancia.O sea, que aunque no duela… puede ser serio.Exacto. Si no se trata, puede avanzar a una enfermedad periodontal, donde ya no solo se inflama la encía, sino que se pierde el hueso que sujeta los dientes. Y ahí ya hablamos de problemas mayores.¿Incluso se pueden llegar a perder dientes?Sí, en fases avanzadas sí. Por eso es tan importante detectarlo a tiempo, porque en fases iniciales es totalmente reversible.¿Y esto se queda solo en la boca o afecta a más cosas?Afecta a mucho más. Cada vez hay más estudios que relacionan la salud de las encías con enfermedades como problemas cardiovasculares, diabetes o inflamación crónica. La boca forma parte del cuerpo, no va por separado.Hay gente que cuando le sangran las encías deja de cepillarse esa zona… ¿eso ayuda?Es justo lo peor que pueden hacer. Es un error muy común. Hay que seguir cepillando bien, con suavidad, y acudir a revisión para tratar la causa.Entonces… ¿cómo podemos prevenir todo esto en casa?Con algo muy básico pero bien hecho: un buen cepillado, usar hilo dental o cepillos interdentales y acudir a revisiones periódicas. No es complicado, pero hay que ser constante.¿Hay alguna señal clara que nos diga “oye, ve al dentista”?Sí: sangrado, encías rojas o inflamadas, mal aliento o notar los dientes más largos. Son señales claras de que algo no va bien.Si tuvieras que quedarte con un mensaje para la gente ¿cuál sería?Que no normalicen el sangrado. Las encías hablan, y cuando sangran están avisando. Si se actúa a tiempo, se puede solucionar sin problema.
