Satiated Saturdays Episode 81: How To Eat When Processing Trauma

from Satiated Podcast · host Stephanie Mara Fox

Happy Satiated Saturday!I remember going through an intense experience many years ago. I was in complete shut down mode and my husband offered to make me lunch. A balanced meal made with love brought me back online where I could start processing what was happening differently.Trauma is an emotional response to a distressing event. We cannot compare one person's trauma to another. It depends upon how your body processed that event. If a situation felt overwhelming, where you felt like you had to abandon your body, you have navigated a traumatic situation. Experiencing trauma can affect the optimal functioning of your gut and alter your gut microbiome. This can affect our relationship with food and our cravings. When processing a traumatic event, two different responses to food can occur. In this week’s episode, we will discuss food behaviors that can occur in response to trauma and new food reactions you can experiment with. You can also read the transcript to this week’s episode here. Food can be used as a powerful tool when healing from trauma.
