say their names

Moment 83 | Say Their Names. Content warning: This episode contains discussion of racism, lynching, racial violence, death, and police violence. After following the Nolan Wells case and watching the unanswered questions continue to grow, I started thinking about something much bigger that's been happening for far too long: the Black lives that have been taken, the families still waiting for answers, and the violence and injustice that we have somehow been expected to become accustomed to. From the history of lynching in America to the lives lost at the hands of law enforcement and the Black men, women, and children whose deaths still leave questions behind, this episode is about refusing to become desensitized and acknowledging these lives so they do not get erased. Because these aren't just stories, statistics, headlines, or names on a list. They were people. They had families. They had lives. And they deserved to live them. So today, I'm talking about it in this episode. To hold space. To remember. And most importantly, to say their names. Card Pull: "The real meditation is how you live your life" - Jon Kabat-Zinn.
