This was a collaboration with Dr. Ibe Lambert of My Black is Transnational and Mr. Cisse of BABA about the experiences of African immigrant parents and their children as we try to balance between two worlds. Within our community, there is a disconnection or lack of understanding of the struggles the adults or the children may be experiencing as we continue to navigate our new adopted environment. Some may wonder why we are having this dialogue? We are having this conversation to start addressing uncomfortable issues within our community that we tend to shy away from discussing. During our discussion, we explore the multifaceted experiences of African immigrants in America, delving into our reasons for migration, initial challenges, cultural identity, and the importance of community and continuous dialogue. The panelists share personal stories, childhood memories, and reflections on parenting in a new cultural landscape, highlighting the complexities of navigating identity and the impact of history on their experiences.
