Millions of visitors to Folkestone or even people visiting the town online see images of our Mermaid. A bronze figure that sits proudly in our harbour. Georgina Baker tells the story of how she applied to be the life cast for the sculpture, and the process she went through to get the cast created! Who would have thought that an attempt to buy “Visit Kent” out of administration in September/October 2025 would now lead to two boys from Kent, who’ve spent more than a decade broadcasting everywhere but from Kent, to now be putting love and ambition into the County they hail from ? And importantly to deliver revenue and business development to the companies and firms that the County relies on as part of our tourism drive. Well it’s very much true, and our investment in the places we love and the towns and villages and cities we owe so much and that we have always taken for granted.
