Season 2 Episode 8 - The Visits

Over the years Tony and Al had several visits with Hadden. The first visit was shocking because no picture could prepare you for the real Hadden Clark. We were expecting to see this little timid man that preferred being a woman, but before us was a 6 foot reptilian looking man staring at you as his tongue darts back and forth and around his lips. His eyes may be looking at you but in reality he was looking through you. The first visits were taken up by small talk and stories about prison. Hadden bragged that he won many bets in prison because he would eat anything, spiders, roaches it didn’t matter. He told us a story about how he once killed a seal on Block Island and ate its heart raw. During later visits he began to open up more as Tony gained his trust. Tony knew he was in for 2 murders, but he always felt there were more. Early on he would ask leading questions about other crimes but Hadden always denied it. On a visit in 2013 we heard about the root cellar for the first time. When he mentioned it, he said that if anyone stumbled on it he would have federal and state authorities lined up at his cell to talk with him. This peaked Tony’s interest and he began bringing the subject up in letters.
