Dobrodošli v oddaji Second Hand. Danes se bomo v njej poklonili Richardu Tandyju, klaviaturistu Electric Light Orchestra, ki je nedavno preminil. Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) je angleška rock skupina, ustanovljena v Birminghamu leta 1970. Njihovo glasbo zaznamuje zlitje popa in klasičnih aranžmajev s futuristično ikonografijo, Tandyjev prispevek k njihovemu zvoku pa je bil ogromen, saj je igral na množico klaviatur, Minimoog, klavinet, melotron in klavir. Zaradi uspeha benda in posebnega zvoka je bila njihova glasba nenehno semplana in prirejana in sicer v več kot 500 primerih. Njihova pogosto prirejena pesem Xanadau z Olivio Newton-John, je bila velika uspešnica leta 1980. V originalnem 13-letnem obdobju aktivnega snemanja in turnej so ELO prodali več kot 50 milijonov plošč po vsem svetu in prejeli številne nagrade. Leta 2017 so bili štirje ključni člani skupine ELO (Wood, Lynne, Bevan in Tandy) sprejeti v Dvorano slavnih rokenrola. Po besedah glasbenega novinarja Simona Pricea so ELO: nedvomno najbolj nekul, celo kljubovalno anti-kul med vsemi ... Vzorčili so jih na desetine in desetine izvajalcev, od Company Flow do Pussycat Dolls, če greš iskati. Tu in tam v moji novinarski karieri je bilo mogoče slišati sodobno skupino, da prizna vpliv ELO; Flaming Lips in Super Furry Animals sta dva primera. Toda skupina, v kateri zaznam največ ELO DNK, je povsem zunaj rock žanra: Daft Punk." Pesem Evil Woman so med številnimi drugimi semplali tudi omenjeni Daft Punk in Pussycat dolls, njihova najbolj semplana in prirejena pesmi pa je Don't Bring Me Down. Leta 1985 je Tandy ustanovil Tandy Morgan Band, v katerem sta bila Dave Morgan in Martin Smith, ter izdal konceptualni album Earthrise. Z leti je nadaljeval z delom in se leta 2012 ponovno združil z Lynne pri drugem projektu ELO, naboru največjih uspešnic skupine v živo. Zbrali so se še večkrat, pogosto na dobrodelnih koncertih. Pred dobrim mesecem so ELO napovedali poslovilno turnejo. Za zdaj ni jasno, ali se bo turneja zgpdila brez Tandyja.
