These are just a few of the reasons why women over 50 may be hesitating to go on camera. But what if the world is missing out on their wisdom? So if this is you, I hope you will tune in and keep listening because we're going to be talking about breaking down those barriers and changing the face of entrepreneurship. But first, as always, I do want to welcome you to Live, Love Engage, especially if this is your first time joining us. I am Gloria Grace, founder of Align to Shine Academy. And I empower women over 50 to overcome life's challenges so they can embrace who they are, lead boldly, and shine their light in the world. Because we need you to do that. We need everybody to shine their light on the world no matter how, how old you are. But Since I'm over 50, I have a particular soft place in my heart for that demographic. So let's dive into this how? Well, let me tell you a little bit about my story first. So I was not always confident to be on camera. And what's interesting is that I, my background is even in television, but I was working behind the scenes. But then when I started my business, I became an SEO copywriter. And as I was when I was starting my business, video was coming into the forefront. And so I had to get over myself and start showing up on camera, which was fine for the first few years until 2016. And that was the year that my lost my sister to cancer. And that threw me for a loop and it really, that grieving process that I went through the whole next year, almost really a couple years, but definitely that first year, I didn't want to show up on video. I didn't want to show up online, period. I mean, let alone because I used to be a blogger or a regular blogger. I would send out weekly emails. I let a lot of that stuff go. And for sure I didn't want to show up on camera. And it took me a while to finally be able to get back going again. So going to talk about this today because I really feel that you need to be out there. I mean, let's face it, video, video is where it is. You know, you, you know, video shorts and long form video, short form video. But how can you be confident about it if, especially when, you know, life throws you a curveball. So I'm going to going to share a few ways that you can do this, including I'm going to do a special sound healing segment as well because that's a tool That I have found that's been really beneficial for myself personally as well as my clients. So video and being the face of your business, it is a powerful way for you to really demonstrate your expertise. You know, you, you get to establish yourself as the go to expert and, and which frankly lets you stand out from your competitors. Because depending on whatever your business is, you probably have a lot of competition. And if you want to be able to reach those really ideal clients that you want to serve with your whole heart and soul, then they need to be able to see you. Because the days of just putting content out online, you know, like I said I mentioned before, you know, doing, doing a blog or doing a social media post, a written post, that's all well and good and it's important and you can still do that. And adding video into the mix is, is so important because it lets people really get to know you, the real you. And, and I know that it can still be challenging to do that because even though you want people to be able to get to know you, you know that old phrase, you know, to know like and trust somebody, they gotta see you. And of course it's good to be able to do this in person. But you can reach so many more people when you use the power of video. And whether that again is recording short videos or doing a, let's say doing a webinar or a master class or, or doing a live stream like I, I have been known to do, or recording, you know, videos and putting them up on YouTube. Remember, YouTube is like the second most popular search engine after Google, I think. Not sure that's exactly true, but people go to YouTube to find solutions. And if you have the solution to someone's problem, you want to be on YouTube, you want to have some sort of videos up there. And yes, you can do videos that don't show your face and I would include some of those as well. But showing yourself, allowing yourself to be vulnerable and be on camera no matter how old you are is really, really good. And let's talk about why. Let's talk about why you. Actually, I should say, I think I've already done that. But let's talk about why you may not be taking advantage of video as a marketing tool. And on also why life's challenges, like grief for instance, like I mentioned at the beginning, how that can also exacerbate things, really make that self doubt you may be experiencing or even the digital overwhelm, how it can make it worse, really do that. So I mentioned at the beginning, I said Ageism. Ah, yes, yes, yes. That old, that old thing, you know, we, especially here in the west, it's, it's been such a youth focused culture that we have where that everything is geared towards or seems to be geared towards appealing to younger demographics. However, if you do research in this, you'll find that as we get older and especially women, that we have a lot more buying power. And if you are an entrepreneur over 50 and you want to even appeal to our demographic, you know, women, let's say over 40, then that is a good demographic to appeal to because they do, they have more, they have more disposable income usually. Or, and even if not, they are the ones who in a family, typically, now there's always exceptions to the rule, but typically they are the ones who are in charge of spending decisions, buying decisions. So I think I got away, I got away a little bit from ageism. Okay, so here's, here's the thing. Even though we are an important demographic and we have this buying power, we're still not always valued by the overall culture. And so because of that, it reinforces this idea somehow that we are less relevant. And it can make self promotion feel daunting. And then you add into it, you know, when you're trying to grow a business, it. You also have this renewed need to prove yourself. And being on camera can trigger that self doubt. And I know this is, you know, several years ago I actually ran a challenge, I think it was called the Be True to Yourself video challenge to help help women to be more confident on camera. And I was so thrilled when I knew several people who were in that challenge really did gain the confidence to do it. And they started showing up online doing videos. And it just made me so happy. And maybe one of these days I'll run that challenge again because it really was a powerful tool. And it's, I'm going to go into in more detail some, some tips about how you can be more confident in a moment. But let, let's stay with, let's stay with sort of what keeps you perhaps from doing that. So if you feel that perhaps your previous achievements are being overlooked or undervalued as a business owner, that can make it, that can be one of the challenges that you might be having. And again, especially if maybe you're newer in business, it can be intimidating to show up as that expert, even though you may feel very confident in yourself....
