Self-care isn’t about being happy all the time: A rant about staying positive

from Mindful and Aware · host Mia Stokes

Taking care of your mental health does not mean you will be happy all the time. Ignoring every bad aspect of life is not the key to living a life of joy and completion. Ignoring emotions only traps them within us for longer causing us to take that negative energy into other aspects of life such as careers, relationships, and our reactions to life situations. Self-care is more than just feeling good, it is about loving and taking care of yourself so much that you let yourself feel all emotions—“good” and “bad”. This episode is different than my others because it is a rant about why life is not just about being positive and happy all the time. It is equally okay and important to acknowledge and feel the not-so-good emotions such as sadness, frustration, anger, etc. It is from those emotions that we can get vulnerable with ourselves and improve the most important relationship in our lives—the relationship with ourselves. That is the one that will affect all external areas of our life because the foundation of our reality forms internally. Here’s to feeling all the feelings, healing, learning, growing, and loving ourselves <3
