He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004–2005, and later returned to Rutgers University as an Assistant Professor of Military Science, mentoring future Army officers. Jon holds a bachelor's degree in economics and a master's degree in Homeland Security and Emergency Management. In his final years of service, he led the New Jersey Counter Drug Task Force, supporting major federal and state agencies in the fight against fentanyl.
