Shawntas Gems: Go With The Flow

from Wealth and Wellness University · host Jacent

Author Journal of a woman with lived experiences 21 day guide Help people to help themselves and others “Opposite of flexibility is control” Shawnta Jackson is that person who leaves a lasting impression. She motivates, challenges, and provides thought provoking dialogue. She is a leader, mother, and social entrepreneur with a vision to help people help themselves and others. She is defying all limitations by succeeding as a single-mother and small business owner who for 11 years has been relied upon by organizations and teams across the United States to help implement and evaluate socially conscious programs and initiatives. She also serves as a facilitator and guest speaker for various audiences. She holds a Master of Public Health degree in social and behavioral health from University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in public relations from Columbia College Chicago. Shawnta is originally from Las Vegas and resides in the Washington- Baltimore metropolitan area with her son, Zachary. Two-hundred dollars, three pairs of dirty clothes, a baby, car seat, and a pair of sunglasses were the only things in Shawnta’s possession when she moved back to Las Vegas from Chicago in what was her first step in leaving an unhealthy and at times, abusive marriage. At the age of 21, while in college, Shawnta married her boyfriend of two years who had five children prior to meeting her. By the time she was 25, she was divorced, literally leaving her life behind. The day she left Chicago was the same day she returned from a road-trip with her husband and his family. Out of fear for her safety, she never returned to her home to retrieve her nor her baby’s personal belongings. She left with what she had in her immediate possession. She had no social security cards, birth certificates, or other vital records for herself or her son. A few months later, she found herself back with her husband, but this time it was in Las Vegas. On one morning, after one of his controlling and intimidating episodes, she snuck out of the house with her son. She only had time to grab her laptop and business cards because she was afraid of getting “caught.” The night before, she went to bed with her shoes on because she wasn’t “allowed” to leave the house. That was her final step in leaving that relationship and her first step into her new life as an independent, self-motivated, emotionally intelligent, and resilient woman. Nearly 14 years later, Shawnta is defying all limitations by succeeding as a single-mother and social entrepreneur where she serves as the founder and chief executive of a boutique consulting agency that supports socially conscious initiatives across the United States.
