Shine Love & Light on Invisible Systems & inequality

from TURNED ON: Wild, free & sexy in your midlife · host Penny van der Sluys

We're surrounded by established systems with inherent biases, dogma and unequal values that limit our thinking and stifle our happiness and freedom. Without an awareness of their existence, we're oblivious to their power and helpless to do anything about them. In this episode, I talk with my beautiful friend, Anna George, author of the novel, 'Tipping', about how her story set around a school sexting scandal at a Melbourne Bayside Private school, shines a spotlight on issues of inequality, highlights systemic problems in schools and workplaces, and draws attention to domestic gender bias.  As you will discover from our chat, her novel cleverly raises awareness of these invisible systems, shows us ways to create real change in our homes, schools and workplaces and leaves us hopeful and optimistic about what's possible with a few tweaks. In this episode, we discuss:   How she uses storytelling to explore meaty topics and encourage readers to empathise with characters, understand issues and question their own behaviour - as she does in her first two novels, 'What came before' and 'The Lone Child'.ont ehtopics of domestic abuse and single parenting that she delves into in her    The impact that our invisible systems are having on the next generation and how we can raise emotionally intelligent kids.   Actions we can take to create change.   Research demonstrating small tweaks can have a big impact.   The Tipping Point phenomenon. The power in making environmental adjustment rather than widespread interventions targeting individuals.   How changing practices rather than thinking can significantly shift bias.   How her book is optimistic and offers us hope, highlighting what we can do to shift the culture in our homes and workplaces.   You can find Anna's books at most bookstores, on Amazon and Audible.  Follow her on social media  https://www.facebook.com/Anna-George-297768810376242/instagram.com/anna_george_author
