这首诗，最被后人传诵的名句“细雨鱼儿出，微风燕子斜。”十个字，字字考究。细雨中的鱼儿可以跃出水面，如果大雨，鱼儿是没办法跳出水面的；而燕子的身子轻巧，但要是遇上狂风也不能自由飞翔，所以才是“微风燕子斜”。而“城中十万户”和“此地两三家”一对比，草堂的闲适幽静就更明显了。八句诗对仗工整，远近交错，精细自然，句句写景，却句句“遣心”。让我们也感受到了诗人杜甫悠游闲适的心情和对大自然、对春天的热爱。
