SIFY Stock: India’s Data-Center Boom — But Deep in Debt

from Charged Alpha Stock Encyclopedia · host Colton Thomas

Sify Technologies (SIFY) Q1 FY2027 — Sify Technologies (SIFY) — an Indian ICT company pivoting hard into data centers for the AI/cloud buildout — reported fiscal Q1 2027 revenue up 15% YoY to INR 12,352M (~$149M), adjusted EBITDA up 42% to ~INR 3,005M (~$36M), and swung to a small net profit (~INR 65M) versus a year-ago loss. Data centers are now 42% of revenue. But quarterly capex (~INR 6,708M / ~$81M) was more than 2x EBITDA, net debt is ~$563M (~3.9x EBITDA), and the ADR has tripled off its 52-week low (~$4.84) to ~$14.69. Sify Technologies is one of the purest ways to bet on India's data-center and AI-infrastructure boom — and its fiscal Q1 2027 marked a real inflection: revenue up 15%, adjusted EBITDA up 42%, and a first net profit after years of losses, with data centers now the biggest segment at 42% of revenue. The catch is the balance sheet. To build all that capacity, Sify spent ~$81M of capex in the quarter — more than double its ~$36M of EBITDA — leaving it deeply free-cash-flow negative and carrying ~$563M of net debt (~3.9x EBITDA). At ~$14.69 (a triple off its ~$4.84 low), it trades near 14x EV/EBITDA — reasonable for 42% growth, but that EV already includes the debt. Our call: HOLD, 3/5. Fair value ~$14, roughly today's price — a genuine inflection and a huge theme, offset by heavy leverage and cash burn. Size it small; watch for deleveraging. Not financial advice. THE CALL: HOLD (3/5, A REAL DATA-CENTER STORY, ON A LEVERAGED BALANCE SHEET) — base-case value ~$14 vs ~$14.69 today. What to watch: deleveraging — net-debt-to-EBITDA falling as data-center capacity fills and EBITDA compounds — plus a free-cash-flow turn once capex stops dwarfing operating cash flow Also on YouTube: @ChargedAlpha DISCLAIMER: For informational and educational purposes only.
