Silent Hill Shattered Memories - Retrospective Review - Silent Evil Podcast 13

from Old Man Orange Podcast · host Spencer Scott Holmes and Ryan Dunigan.

Spencer and Cameron are going back to 2009/2010 to visit the Silent Hill reimaging game of Shattered Memories. Originally on the Nintendo Wii then ported to PS2 and PSP for a very late to the party game on the Playstation 2.The story is Harry Mason lost in the town of Silent Hill, looking for his daughter, Cheryl. Just like the original. But beyond that start, the rest of the game goes for a vastly different take on the story. Starting out with a physiatrist therapy session and periodically coming back to this gameplay style, with questions that influence how each person's run will turn out. Something very interesting and neat that not a whole lot of other games do and this one may be the first. You see a lot of the old characters like Cybil the cop, Lisa the nurse, and a very alternative take on Dahlia. They all have a new more American look in this version and less Japanese anime like the original game. That is due to the fact that this era of Silent Hill games is made by westerners. Which was a common trend around this time. The game's story is really where it shines. It's a nice short run and every cutscene and character interaction keeps you pushing forward. It does have one odd gameplay mechanic where the town freezes up and then you have to do these running scenes and try and find the right door while a bunch of little kid monsters chase you. Interesting but defiantly the weak link to the game. But, this whole game has a lot of experimental gameplay going on, so it's to be expected that not everything will be revelational. Overall, if you are a Silent Hill and Survival Horror fan, this game is totally worth the playthrough experience. Even with our spoiler filled discussion, it does not take away from your own personal journey with Harry in this adventure. So, come join us for the run through retrospective discussion, as we deep dive into the lore, gameplay mechanics, and give a retro review on our modern experience. Let us know your thoughts on the game, survival horror titles, and what we should play next. The Silent Evil Podcast S.T.A.R.S. Spencer Scott Holmes and Cameron Curbelo.
