Simultaneity & Infinity
from Falling Gently Podcast · host Falling Gently
Planning my timing for our Thanksgiving mealI am awed and humbled by the vast orchestration of lifeIt feels like advanced math to determine the cadence of 10 items in 1 oven with 3 temperaturesWhile life synchronizes billions of species over 8 biomes in 4 seasons on this planet aloneCuriously, it’s relaxing meWe are part of something so big and so precise and so unpredictable and yet so structuredThe details of my life which seem so importantAre like the finest hairs on a babyA baby who, like us, has a dozen critical organ systems hosting trillions of bacteriaAll helping her discover her hands or spit out her oatmealFor a similarly complex puppy to lick up off the floorThe enormity of the miracle is beyond comprehensionThe intricacy of the relationships is mesmerizing and bafflingWhile the absurdity of human events can have me shaking my headThe effusiveness of nature’s creativity has me falling to my kneesWhen I get stuck, it’s usually because I’m trying to position myself within the constructs of cultureWhen I need to receive myself within the expanse of creationSize-wise, we are the midpoint between the cosmic and the microbialWorlds we are just beginning to discoverThat I can sit and plan a dinner in this wild world of wonderIs as much a fractal as a fern leafAnd the thousands of elements that make this dinner possibleFrom seed to sprout, grower to market and all their component partsComing together, sometimes well, sometimes comicallyIn millions of homes simultaneously yet no two the sameWhile millions of other homes do completely different things that dayIt really is too big to fathom - and somehow that helpsBecause even with cascading complexity and dazzling relationshipsThe incalculable number of things happening right now this second in every spot on earthBirths and deaths, hunting and sleeping, disruptions, restorations, every kind of experience for every kind of organismSimultaneouslyThe shows us unequivocallyAs complex as it is“The total number of minds in the universe is one” This is a public episode.
