Christian Service and the Encounter with the Divine. A true Christian service flows from and is sustained by a life of prayer. A true Christian life of prayer should lead to a Christian service and thus an encounter with the divine in the other. Prayer/contemplation and service represented by Mary and Martha in today’s Gospel are therefore two sides of the same coin.
