SLP 476: Making Each Day Count with Lisa Rowe

from Self Love Podcast · host The Wellness Couch

‘How do you cope? And she would say, ‘Well, what is my alternative? I have to cope. And what is coping? I have to be there for my son, be there for my other children. And I have to endure.’ So, I guess, when you talk about strategies, that’s kind of my strategy. Life’s short, we are lucky to have every single day on this planet. And I think of people who are every day facing surgery, chemotherapy and worse, their final breath. And I am also very aware of what it’s like to be the loved one of somebody doing that. You know, having lost my mother at the age of 50. My strategy is very much based on gratitude. Every single day that I get another day, another go and make it count. Make every minute count for all those who don’t have the opportunity.’ ~ Lisa Rowe In this week’s show we talk to Lisa Rowe, a prominent figure on the Sunshine Coast, who shares her background, career journey, and personal philosophy of gratitude, emphasising the importance of making every day count. She shares her 24-year tenure at Wishlist, the hospital foundation for the region, and her decision to leave to pursue a new venture with Caroline Hutchinson, focusing on highlighting businesses that prioritise social responsibility. The conversation also touched on the concept of using a magic wand to create an ideal world, the importance of self-care, and the impact of Lisa’s work in healthcare. A very heartfelt and inspirational interview destined to make your heart sing. About Lisa: With a rich background in fundraising and organisational leadership, Lisa served as the CEO of Wishlist (Sunshine Coast Health Foundation) for 24 years. In that time, the hospital charity grew from a team of two in a demountable to more than 25, with 150 volunteers spanning two Coffee Houses and three emergency accommodation centres across the Coast and Gympie. Under her guidance, Wishlist directed more than $22 million towards enhancing local public health services through medical equipment, research funding, new facilities, and support initiatives across five local hospitals. Her definition of self-love is spending time to identify and then create space for the things that fill your cup or de-stress you. That can be time for the things that matter. It’s about forgiveness, and giving to self. It’s about growth and gratitude. Her favourite quote is from Amanda Gorman: We ignite not in the light, but in lack thereof.’ Links to follow: 🌐 Website: ourshoutpr.com.au 📘 Facebook: facebook.com/ourshoutpr 📸 Instagram: instagram.com/ourshoutpr 🔗 LinkedIn: Lisa Rowe on LinkedIn 📧 Email: [email protected] | [email protected] Quotes: I have a real passion for community and to dig deep and give. I felt very ripped off as a twelve-year-old. On reflection, I gained so much more than I lost. It always comes back to gratitude. Life is so short, make it count. I am not strong enough to endure that kind of negativity. The whole purpose is to make services better for the community. It’s about supporting a community in need. We do have to remember we have a remarkable healthcare system. It brings hope and joy and distraction that gives you a wee break. I carried so much guilt in trying to balance it all. Caroline and I have been building a plan together. We would like to shine a light tell the story and build the efforts of philanthropy. It’s about looking after yourself in the best way possible. Don’t do as I have done! Balance and well-being is super important. There would be money enough for all and peace across this world. There is always something that can be better. It comes back to compassion. My greatest wish is for good health. Corporate responsibility is more than a buzzword. Storytelling is a catalyst for change.   SELF LOVE PODCAST SPONSOR LINKS THANKYOU FOR LISTENING… If you would like to share your feedback on this podcast please head to my Facebook and Instagram pages below.
