SLP 479: Self Love Quicky - Seed Cycling and Essential Oils

from Self Love Podcast · host The Wellness Couch

In this week’s Quicky – and as a follow on from this week’s Interview with Mel Kovacevich – we discuss the benefits of seed cycling and how to incorporate essential oil use for hormonal health in women. We also look at the importance of aligning with natural rhythms, including the moon cycle. There are specific seeds – and essential oils – for each phase of the menstrual cycle and if all women of all ages took the time to observe and journal their own cycles it could become very clear as to what could assist and how they can work harmoniously together. Women who no longer menstruate are reminded they can sync with the moon phases. So, rather than viewing your hormones negatively, let’s embrace them and remember the vital role they play throughout our life. Seed cycling is a natural method of supporting hormone balance through food. By rotating four types of seeds with your cycle—flax, pumpkin, sesame, and sunflower—you can help stabilise estrogen and progesterone levels throughout the month. Follicular Phase (Day 1–14): Begins on the first day of your period (often aligns with the new moon). Focus: Support rising estrogen and detoxification. Seeds: Flax + Pumpkin Essential Oils: Clary Sage – balances estrogen and calms the mind Grapefruit – uplifts and supports liver detox Rose Geranium – harmonising and emotionally nurturing This is a great time for gentle movement, journaling, planning, and renewal. Luteal Phase (Day 15–28): Begins after ovulation (often aligns with the full moon). Focus: Boost progesterone, reduce inflammation, support calm. Seeds: Sesame + Sunflower Essential Oils: Lavender – calming and hormone supportive Frankincense – grounding and emotionally balancing Ylang Ylang – eases tension and uplifts the heart This is the phase to slow down, nurture yourself, and tune in deeply. Seed cycling is a natural method of supporting hormone balance through food. The first day of your period often aligns with the new moon. Women’s cycles have long been connected to the moon. Many menstruate around the new moon, a time for release and inward reflection. Ovulation, our peak creative and fertile time, often lands around the full moon, symbolising illumination and connection. Essential oils, like seeds and moon wisdom, are natural tools to support this process.   SELF LOVE PODCAST SPONSOR LINKS THANKYOU FOR LISTENING… If you would like to share your feedback on this podcast please head to my Facebook and Instagram pages below.
