SLP 576: Discipline, Presence and the Journey Back to Self with Aaron Brooks

from Self Love Podcast · host The Wellness Couch

In this deeply personal conversation on the Self Love Podcast, Kim sits down with Aaron Brooks, a respected real estate leader whose success has been shaped as much by adversity as it has by ambition. From his upbringing in West Auckland to the profound loss of his mother, Aaron shares the raw and defining moments that tested his resilience and ultimately reshaped his life. He opens up about the difficult period following his mother’s passing, including his struggle with prescription medication, and the turning point that called him back to himself through discipline, accountability and a commitment to growth. Aaron’s honesty extends into his role as a father and leader, where vulnerability and strength coexist. Whether navigating solo parenting, redefining masculinity, or leading a large real estate network with a values first approach, he speaks to the importance of character, consistency and emotional awareness. His insights on managing trauma, handling triggers, and choosing responsibility over blame offer a grounded and practical perspective on healing. This episode is a reminder that life’s hardest chapters can become the foundation for meaningful change and that true leadership begins within. About Aaron: Aaron started his real estate career 1992 as the first ever real estate cadet in Australia and was awarded in 1993 and 1994 as Ray White Cadet of the Year. Aaron went to NZ as an Office Manager / Auctioneer with the company Harvey’s in Auckland where he ran two offices in 1997 and 1998. Both of those offices were in the top 3 for Harvey’s Group NZ, number 1 and number 3, and they were number 1 and number 2 auction offices for company. When Aaron returned to Australia in 1999, he took on the role as Chief Auctioneer for the Harcourts Queensland Group and continued this role until 2004. In 2000, Aaron was awarded the Real Estate Institute of Queensland’s Auctioneer of the Year. Aaron then went on to be the CEO of the group from 2004 until 2014 where he took the organisation from 47 offices to 110 offices. Aaron sold his shares in the company and established his own coaching businesses. Aaron has now turned his full-time attention to Harcourts Property Centre as Director and co-owner. Aaron Brooks has conducted over 7,000 property auctions and worked with many of Australia’s leading sales consultants over the last 20 years of him being in the industry His definition of Self Love is: My definition for self love is to work hard on my disciplines to get myself through my daily rituals. His favourite quote is from a story about the Dalai Lama with the core message being: “Don’t tell people what to do unless you are living it yourself” Links to follow: Website: https://www.propertycentre.au/ https://www.propertycentre.au/team/aaron-brooks/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/harcourtspropertycentre/ Quotes: I consider myself a real human. I know I have got a big heart and I care. I am a constant learner. I have a genuine interest in helping people create the best version of themselves. You can’t leave your heart at home when you go to work. If I don’t get a genuine vibe that they are a decent human being, then I don’t want to introduce them to our work family. Once I lost my ego, I didn’t have to prove anything to anybody else. All I had to do was prove things to myself. If you are in my circle, you are in my circle of love and protection. When I lost my mum, it was the biggest low in my life. I would rather get people to like the real me than a version I am pretending to be. Motivation might get you started, but discipline will take you where you need to be. If you put yourself in any environment, you have got to uplift it. That is my responsibility, bringing the energy to that environment. If I am going to be the best version of me then I need to work hard on me. I don’t play the blame game. If something happens, what part of this do I own? I always accept responsibility for my part in that. You never really lose in any situation if you learn out of it. You have got two choices. You get bitter or you get better. I have enough energy for today, tomorrow can wait. I am not afraid to ask people for help. The truth will set you free. My religion is kindness. The only thing that I can control is how I react to situation I genuinely want to see people achieve. I do my best to be happy.   SELF LOVE PODCAST SPONSOR LINKS THANKYOU FOR LISTENING… If you would like to share your feedback on this podcast please head to my Facebook and Instagram pages below.
