He is a long time activist in AFSCME (American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees). He was the President of his local union AFSCME 2858 for 16 years and retired 10 years ago. He has been involved in socialist politics his entire adult life and was previously active in campaigning for Kshama Sawant for City Council in Seattle going back to 2013.
