Galway United's hopes of a first competitive win over Shamrock Rovers in 20 years will have to wait as they were comprehensively beaten 3-1 by the SSE Airtricity League Men's Premier Division champions in Tallaght Stadium on Friday evening (26th June 2026). Frantz Pierrot got a late consolation goal for the Tribesmen but early strikes from Aaron Greene, John McGovern and Michael Noonan ensured the Hoops went seven points clear at the top of the table.  Galway United remain in seventh place, still five points clear of the relegation zone.
