Even though bragging rights were at stake, it turned out to be a priceless three points for Galway United in the SSE Airtricity League Men's Premier Division at the Showgrounds on Monday evening (14th September 2026). Cian Kavanagh gave the hosts a 1-0 lead on eight minutes before Jimmy Keohane converted the first of two Galway United penalties 10 minutes later. Stephen Walsh put United ahead on 39 minutes before Keohane wrapped up the points four minutes from time.  United move up to sixth, but are still only three points ahead of the relegation places.
