Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity
from A Spiritual Journey from Dust to the Fire of Mission · host Father Robertus Bambang Rudianto SJ
Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, and the Word given to us is a river of mercy: The Lord, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger and rich in kindness; and again, For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. Before we reflect, let us start we opening prayer: the Holy Triune God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We come into Your presence with hearts that long to enter into the fellowship of Your love. Enlighten our minds and put away all our worldly attachments today. Prepare our minds through Your Word, so that at the end of this meditation, we are truly ready to let go of our egos and put our whole lives into the hands of Your organization in its entirety. Amen. The mystery of the Trinity is not a puzzle for the mind alone. It is the revelation that God is communion: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit living in eternal love. Exodus gives us a beautiful name for God: merciful, gracious, slow to anger, rich in kindness and fidelity. Paul then blesses the community with the grace of Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. And the Gospel of John places all of this at the center of salvation: God loved the world so deeply that he gave his Son.So Trinity Sunday is not abstract. It tells us that the deepest truth about reality is love. God does not remain distant. He draws near, gives himself, and invites us into communion. John 3 reminds us that the Son is not sent to condemn the world, but to save it. That means we are not invited to live in fear, but in trust. Not in suspicion, but in faith. Not in isolation, but in loving relationship with the God who seeks us first.
