Spiritual Bookshelf Episode 33 :How to initiate self-change? Part 5

from 心靈書架 Spiritual Bookshelf スピリチュアルな 本棚 Spirituelles Bücherregal · host 飛利浦 Phillip

Hi there! How’s your week been?Welcome back to our podcast as we continue exploring one of the most powerful personal development books out there — The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey.Today, we’ll be diving into Habit 6: Synergize, and Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw — the final two habits that tie everything together.9.Habit 6: SynergizeAt the heart of this habit is the idea of creative cooperation — working together in a way that produces results far better than anything we could do alone. You’ve probably heard the phrase, “1 + 1 is greater than 2.” That’s what synergy is all about. So what does it take to create this kind of synergy?1)Differences are strengths — not threats. We all have different backgrounds, styles, and ways of thinking. When we truly respect those differences, we open the door to new ideas and better solutions. Instead of seeing differences as conflict, we can see them as opportunities for innovation.2)Deep communication is key.To really synergize, we need to first understand each other — and that takes listening with empathy. Once both sides feel heard and understood, they can let their guards down. And that’s when something new and better — a “third alternative” — can be born.3)Synergy is the peak of effectiveness. It’s not easy and it doesn’t happen every day — but when it does, it’s powerful. It requires trust, openness, and a willingness to think creatively. So how do we make this work in our daily lives?Covey says it starts with a strong inner foundation — self-control and self-responsibility. Then, we build trusting relationships. With a win-win mindset and empathic listening, we create deep collaboration. He also reminds us: Respect differences. Don’t fear conflict. Instead, practice seeing things from the other person’s point of view. Let go of “I’m right, you’re wrong” thinking. Look for the third option. And most importantly, treat people as valuable resources, not obstacles — even if they think differently from you.10.Habit 7: Sharpen the SawThis habit is all about self-renewal — keeping your body, mind, heart, and spirit refreshed so you can keep growing and stay effective in the long run.Covey talks about renewing ourselves in four key areasYou can renew your spirit through prayer, meditation, time in nature, or reading inspiring material. Covey says this part fuels all the others — it gives depth and direction to your life.Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish — it’s responsible. You can’t pour from an empty cup.So how can we start practicing Habit 7?Set aside 30 to 60 minutes each day: • 15 minutes of movement or stretching • 10 minutes of quiet time, prayer, or meditation • Read or listen to something uplifting during your commute • Eat dinner with your family, talk and connect • Before bed, write in a gratitude journal or reflect on your dayInvesting in yourself is the best strategy for long-term success and happiness. It’s not just about productivity — it’s about living a healthy, meaningful life.As we wrap up today’s episode — how are you feeling?Did something we shared today stand out to you? If so, give it a try this week! We’ve now completed our journey through The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People — a book that’s changed the lives of millions.Just look at people like:Bill Gates, who practices Habits 2, 3, and 7.He reads around 50 books a year to renew his thinking, plans his work with a clear end in mind, and focuses on what matters most.If you enjoyed today’s episode, don’t forget to subscribe and share it with someone who might need it too. Thanks for joining me!Wishing you a week full of learning, growth, and peace.Take care — and see you next time!
