Spokes Fighting Strokes on Recovery Now with Kim Justus

from A Recovery Now · host Kim Justus

Dan Zimmerman suffered a stroke 11 years ago, and was told “wheel chair for life and no talking”.  For years he took their word for it. Then he discovered the recumbent Trike, which he learned to ride with no help. Annually, more than 800,000 Americans suffer a stroke; SpokesFightingStrokes wants to reach these stroke survivors and show them that recovery is possible at levels beyond what they’ve been told or led to believe! His mission now is to show stroke survivors how to regain freedom and independence while enjoying improved recovery and health, as he has through adaptive cycling. See: spokesfightingstrokes.org Lise Neer's husband, Joe suffered a severe TBI in 2010 when he crashed during a bicycling event.  For the next three years she was in charge of managing his care, until his death from complications in 2013. She became interested in joining his 2016 Sea to Sea tour and working with the stroke community, having seen the possibilities with triking while attempting to help my husband recover. As Communications Officer for Spokes Fighting Strokes, she is honored to be a partner with Dan in this mission. This show is a gathering place for anyone seeking recovery from the challenges of life on life's terms. We discuss useful tools that have helped us lighten the load, of our journey through recovery. This is a "we" recovery program, because it is in the "we," that we find the new "me." We focus on the four A's of Recovery: Awareness, Acceptance, Action and Adaptation. This is a place for survivor's striving to become thrivers. Front part of show is a featured guest. The second is Open Mic and some great Indy Music, sure to inspire!
