Srila Govinda Maharaja “Miami 1992″ Part 1 – Arrival

from Sri Gaura Vinoda Saraswat Sanga · host GVSS

This lecture was recorded in Miami on the evening of July 16, 1992 during Srila Govinda Maharaja’s first world tour. At file position 45m30s-47m05s Includes discussion of how a person with material tongue and senses can chant the transcendental Maha Mantra. “Mahaprabhu said, ‘Service to the Vaishnava, service to Guru can give you that transcendental form and, through that you can chant Hare Krishna Maha Mantra and you can do seva. Then the first necessity is to do service, to give your service to Guru Vaishnava. And through that you will get everything. Your form must become transcendental. And, another way you can see in the scripture, in Chaitanya Charitamrta, “diksa-kale bhakta kare atma-samarpana, sei-kale krsna tare kare atma-sama sei deha kare tara cid-ananda-maya, aprakrta-dehe tanra carana bhajaya” –Gurudeva substitutes the word “Krishne” (Krishna) for “tanra” (His, the Lord’s) Then, nobody got this from your Guru. And the meaning can also come this way, diksa-kale bhakta kare atma-samarpana, when you are taking diksha from your Gurudeva, you are doing surrender, atma-samarpana, and immediately Krishna in the form of your Guru, He is taking you and immediately making your body transcendental and through that transcendental body you are worshiping Krishna.”

Arsha Vijnana Gurukulam arshavijnanagurukulam The Sri Rudram is one of the holiest chants in the Veda. It expounds a sophisticated understanding of God, Īśvara as immanent and transcendental . All that is here in the universe is non-separate from its cause —Īśvara. Everything that is present and everything that comes to light borrows its presence and sentience from Īśvara. The air that we breathe, the sun that lights up the sky, the cool light of the moon, are all manifestations of Īśvara. The entire universe is nothing but Īśvara, but Īśvara, being limitless is not any one thing in universe. Understanding Īśvara in this manner, it is easy to see that Īśvara pervades everything including one’s own body-mind-sense complex. One is never away from Īśvara —in fact, one is Īśvara. Listening to this meaning of this hymn reduces and eliminates the sense of alienation and disconnection that one feels from the Universe, from one’s fellow-beings, and from Īśvara.
