Un 21 octubre 1941 nacía Steve Cropper guitarrista de soul y productor musical. Cropper perteneció a la banda Booker T. & the M.G.’s que fue pionera en la mezcla de soul, rhythm and blues, y rock. Su gran éxito Green Onions, cuyo sonido del órgano se convirtió en una característica del "sonido del alma de Memphis", constituye un himno del soul instrumental.
